Melbourne shooting: Person 'who made threats against PM' shot dead, two officers stabbed in Endeavour Hills
abc.net.au
23 September 2014, 11:15pm

A person who reportedly made threats against the Prime Minister has been shot dead and two police officers from the joint counter terrorism team have been stabbed in Melbourne's outer south-east.

The ABC understands the dead man was considered a "person of interest" by authorities and was being investigated over terrorism.

It is also believed he recently had his passport cancelled.

The incident occurred as the man arrived at a police station on Heatherton Road in Endeavour Hills about 7:40pm (AEST) on Tuesday.

He had been asked to attend an interview as part of an investigation.

An altercation with officers took place outside the station when he arrived.

One of the officers who was stabbed is from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the other is a Victoria Police member.

They have both been rushed to hospital and one is in a critical but stable condition.

The AFP is expected to issue a statement shortly and Victoria Police are also expected to speak to the media this evening.

Paramedics confirmed they attended the scene but would not comment on the condition of the stabbing victims.

A large number of uniformed and plain clothes officers were at the scene late on Tuesday night, with officers interviewing witnesses from a nearby shopping centre.

Part of Heatherton Road remained closed.

the ALP and the Greens should hang their heads in shame there border protection policies were disgraceful and now we have people in this country who shouldn't be here and people are worried about their personal safety.

Anyone who stabs a cop is a good chance to get shot.

The media hype on this has been massively blown out of proportion. No surprises there.

The media pumping it up is just making a martyr of him to rest of his stuffwit kind. Should have been just covered as a criminal shot by police. I guess we need to justify war again.

Absolutely ridiculous to blame this on a party. It has been going on much longer but Australia has long been too scared to say anything in fear of being labeled racist again. Islam is a social problem. It is impossible for them to entirely assimilate into a foreign society because to mean so would be to breach several rules of their religion. It's the 21st century and some people still follow mythology. Unbelievable. Australia is still at least a decade behind much of central Europe that is cracking down on anything islam. Australia is so hell bent on being some sort of multicultural utopia that it creates separate sets of rules to accomodate anyone who sets foot here. It should be our way or the highway.

To quote a minister in the 50s that was repeated by a politican in recent times during their maiden speech

Quote
The distinction I make is this. A social problem is one that concerns the way in which people live together in one society. A racial problem is a problem which confronts two different races who live in two separate societies, even if those societies are side by side. We do not want a society in Australia in which one group enjoy one set of privileges and another group enjoy another set of privileges.

Absolutely stupid statement Ramps.

Massive generalisation that doesn't hold water. You cannot tell me there are not people that have been here decades that don't hold the views of IS. Just like there are more recent arrivals who do the same

What is happening right now should not be used as some political point scoring exercise. This a world wide problem not isolated to this great country of ours

Thankfully our political parties (outside of the Greens and their moronic dribble and their overall insignificance) aren't doing it
