Mitch Robinson set to play at Brisbane despite late push from Richmond

DUMPED Carlton wrecking ball Mitch Robinson seems certain to play for Brisbane next year despite a late push from Richmond.

The Tigers met with Robinson on Tuesday where they presented a one-year deal. The Lions have presented a two-year contract.

Robinson’s manager Tim Hazell refused to confirm his client was moving north, only saying Robinson was weighing up the two deals.

“Both meetings were successful and we’ve just got to weigh up what’s best for Robbo and his family and lifestyle opportunities,” Hazell said.

“Richmond were extremely professional. They put an offer to Robbo and so has Brisbane and we’ve just got to decide which suits him best.”

But the Herald Sun understands Robinson will sign on the dotted at the Lions when the delisted free agency opens on Saturday.

The tough utility wants a fresh start and feels getting out of Melbourne is the right option. His relationship with new chief executive Greg Swann, the anonymity of Brisbane and the emergence of the Lions as a side on the rise were also significant factors.

The Lions midfield now looms as a major weapon next season, with Robinson’s rugged approach set to complement the playmaking skill of fellow arrivals Dayne Beams and Allen Christensen. Key pair Daniel Rich and Matthew Leuenberger will also return from injury

Richmond has been keen to bolster its midfield stocks and also made a play for Melbourne’s Jack Trengove and St Kilda’s David Armitage during the trade period.

Robinson, 25, was cut by the Blues last month after the club failed to find a suitor at the trade table. He had worn out the patience of Carlton chiefs after lying about his involvement in a 5am city brawl.

Other delisted free agents looking for a second chance from Saturday include Taylor Hunt (Geelong), Jared Petrenko (Adelaide), Sam Blease (Melbourne) and Shaun McKernan (Adelaide).

Article on the Herald |Sun site saying we will sign Taylor Hunt.  Wouldn't have minded them both as rookies but reckon Robinson is the better player of the two.

Honestly thought clubs would have been queuing up to get Taylor Hunt absolutely free as a DFA. Would almost be a walk up start in every side outside top 4. Pretty disappointing if we didn't at least enquire.

What a nuffy, we are looking at him you derp  ::)

Match the deal Tigers.
No doubt in my mind he would in our best 22.
Originally I didn't care but I think we actually need him.
Brisbane could overtake us as a side in one trade period.
Time to get off your high horse Tigers, it would be fantastic to have a team full of gentlemen, but this game sometimes calls for some poo.
I personally couldn't give a toss if anyone is out till 5am, as long as they are getting a kick.
We have been down for to long, time to do something!!

hmm i dont get the glee with him.
i see a bloke who struggles to find the ball and when he does get it is poor.

i know robbo has his flaws as well but from a purely performance perspective id say robbo wins easily.
we sure could do with a decent run with player id be happy to have either for that role.
i think we have to remember with both we are looking at limited players who add a hard edge.
hunt is limited or has been to date. not a big possesion winner and yeah i know he has a run with role a lot of time. good taggers hurt their opponent going the other way. is not a clearance player  theres few c/p few tackles and imo his skills are a little iffy.  imo clubs have avoided him for a reason.

if given a choice id take robinson thanks. imo both are better options than grigg as a role player and that role being a tagger.

If you mean in terms of the size of the gap between their respective on-field and off-field intelligence, then I agree.

William your opinion on here is held in very high regard.  Please repeat.

Really?

Don't want Robinson don't rate him

cannot believe we didn't go after Garlett especially in light of what the Demons gave up for him. He was a bargain at pick 70 odd

Agree

Yep Jacko was a fine off field leader with a balanced head and represented our club in the best possible way.

Robinson is a cancer that the Blues just cut out and threw away.

Last thing we need in our club is a party boy with ADD.

Glad we didn't get him.

can someone explain to me how we have 5 nd picks.
we cut 5 from the list proper ohanlon, jackson, king, edwards, and helbig.  that would create 5 picks. thing is we have promoted miles to the list proper  taking one of those spots.
what am i missing here to me to use 5 nd picks we have to cut another player.
Our 5th ND pick will be used on rookie upgrading Miles to the senior list. So we currently have 4 live picks. If we pick up a delisted free agent (eg: Hunt) then that will be reduced to 3 live picks.

I think we played one short last year?
