So, tank and get pick 1+2 for losing Rance?

Trade Lids for a 1st round pick also?

Footy Classified tonight had a door-stop interview with Rance outside of Punt Rd earlier today as Alex arrived on his scooter. They asked what was going on with the contract discussions and Alex said it was between the club, himself and his manager. They then asked if there's a timeframe for a final decision and Alex said they are working through it. They finally then asked Alex if he will be at Richmond next year and Alex didn't bother answering and just walked through the door inside.

The show then replayed an audio clip of Terry Wallace from Crocmedia's Sportsday. Wallace said up to two weeks ago, Rance was planning to take a year's sabbatical and travel with his wife.

Make of all that what you will.

So we just sign him up for 2017 onwards instead then?

Brisbane eyes keys Alex Rance and Charlie Dixon with $8 million raid

Mark Robinson
Herald-Sun
May 28, 2015

BRISBANE is making an $8 million raid to secure powerhouse bookends for next season.

The Lions have already targeted Richmond defender Alex Rance and have added gun Gold Coast forward Charlie Dixon to their wish list.

They are prepared to offer five year contracts to the pair and at about $750,000 a season for both players, the salary packages come close to $4 million each.

The Rance situation remains at an impasse.

The Tigers have met with his manager Tom Petroro about a new contract, but no significant ground has been made.

Lions coach Justin Leppitsch, a confessed friend of Rance, said he hasn't used his friendship to lure Rance north.

''We're really strong, we're good mates, always have been, and I'm really close with his family and I catch up with him,'' Leppitsch said on SEN Radio.

''But one thing, and even Richmond knows this, I talk to him as friend first and foremost, and not as Brisbane Lions coach.

''All our conversations are that way.

''When we speak it's about his issues, about what he's going through and personal things.

''It's not about "Come to the Brisbane', it's not a recruiting ploy at all from the Lions.

''Alex, and everyone who knows him will tell you, he's a very single-minded man, he will make his choice and that will be that.

Leppitsch said he believed Rance would continue playing AFL.

''And the rest he will work out,'' the coach said.

Can't afford to lose him. Got room in the salary cap. Make him an offer he can't refuse.

1 player isn't greater than the whole. Not underestimating his importance to us but if we miss out on bringing someone like Shiel because we gave Rance 300K above market value... We won't get anywhere.

Bit of a slap in the face to Rance isn't it? Dixon, hasn't done a lot to date is getting the same coin.

He is certainly worth $750k a season, probably more

I wrote previously that he is worth 800-850k to us. A club trying to poach him would need to come up with $1 million to poach him if its about money. If he goes to Brisbane for 750k it will mean it was never about the money.
