probably us - but beyond that pies have a shedload of bluechip talent theyre drafting - whether they come on is another thing but youd like to have a crack to the extent they are with early picks last year and this year.

Blues list has many holes in it

bombres are stuffed

doggies have lots of midfield talent but little else

eagles bookends are pretty good - midfield talent needs to improve

Pies
us
Eagles
Doggies
blues
dons

I 100% agree, Collingwood has done exceptionally well with there drafting the last couple of seasons while only really cutting away dead wood.
Beams will be missed greatly in the short term but 3-4 years from now expect to see them right back in amongst it.
I honestly believe our list is just about to hit its prime as well. We certainly need to see allot of natural improvement in allot of younger players but I certainly feel we need to make a couple of big moves in the next couple of free agent / trade periods. Getting this right in the next 3 years will either make or break the club.
imo collingwoods problem is they have lost so much experience since malthouse left. think they have 9 100 gamers a couple who have played 90 95 odd and then the rest of the list is struggling to play 50 games a player.
they not only lose beams but a shedload of experienced players again.
lumumba, ball, hudson, lynch, maxwell, come to mind.they werent all deadwood.
last yr didak, johnson, jolly, krakouer, russell, shaw, and thomas. dawes tarrant and wellingham also come to mind.

whenyou look at their 2010  premiership team i reckon you would be lucky to find 5 or 6 players who are left from it.
it will take time for their kids as a collective to get the neccesary experience.

So, in other words, Buckleys handled this gig like a first term election. Makes all the tough calls in his first 3 years, sells in a re-build in years 4-5 and hopes like hell it pays off in year 6.
Eddies probably cost his club a flag by putting Bucks in Micks chair but figures he has the goodwill with the Caringbush faithful to stuff them over for a few years.
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

clearly something has gone drastically wrong at collingwood.
the scary thing about them in 2011 was their list ave age was  just 22yrs and 319 days, yet they had just played in a g/f. their gf side was on ave 2 yrs younger than geelongs. it was in a good place.
its one thing to say okay we need to take a small step back to get a flag but they have gone into almost a rebuild. the obvious question is did they need to. to me the obvious answer to that is no.

so what went wrong. clearly it has something to do with the new coach to have a constant stream of your seasoned players wanting out. i agree with a small amount of tweaking they should have been in a position to win at least one more flag.

i suppose the one plus is they are getting decent returns on the players they lose. wich at least is enabling them to go to the nd well with a lot of prized picks.  could be scary if they get their picks right.

They are still replacing them with very good picks and players, they are rebuilding, the older players know it and some are leaving while they can.  If they were getting poo in I would be happy but people are still paying overs for everything that leaves.  We wouldn't get anything like the picks they are extorting for their offloads.  A couple of years, they will probably replace figjam and be giving us the shell grits again as much as it irritates me to admit it.

bit like stkilda did with stanley?

clubs are prepared to pay anything for the player. Pies are no different. We though always rest on your laurels when the season is over. If we had any idea what we are doing then we would have thrown some players up to see who would bite. Stanley proved that clubs bite

Players were thrown up and clubs did bite, problem is Richmond thought the players were more valuable than what other clubs were willing to pay.
Geelong would have taken Vickery or Griffiths for pick 21 in a heart beat, but the club obviously thought both players were more value to us now than pick 21 will be.

They are worth more than pick 21 all bs aside.  Both of them.  Griff could be stuffing magic if he put it all together and stayed uninjured, sometimes he just does things that make you think he could be really amazing.
