I like some of our r2 plus picks (a few) over the years but just for once how about the Tigers be the team that picks up that smokey that makes a real difference year 1. Every year one team or another seems to pick that player , well its our turn. I have no idea who that player is but my bet it would be a small/medium forward that could come in to our team and make the biggest difference straight away. I think thats what they were trying to do last year but I didnt come off. Stick to the kids this year, just maybe one will surprise.

Yeah like Miles but a kid on the main list. He was definitely a good find that many other teams overlooked but this thread is about our later picks on the main list and it's been a long time since one of them has made a immediate impact.

Daniel is a competitive, one-on-one defender. His strength is nullifying one-on-one contests and clearing the footy. He boasts a great work ethic and has the closing speed to be effective against the lead. Matt’s last three or four games of the year and finals put him back in genuine draft contention. He is an inside midfielder who can play outside, but he tried to go outside a bit more at Vic Metro. He can break out of a pack but his kicking needs a bit of improvement. If he can start to win the ball in tight and feed it out, or burst away and fix his kicking, he might go late. – Calder Cannons talent manager Ian Kyte

Murray Bushrangers | 19/2/95 | H: 182cm | W: 84kg
Nathan has come back as a 19-year-old to the Bushrangers after playing just a couple of games with us last year. Worked on all the areas he needed to and he’s one of those kids that has that rare double with speed and elite endurance. His testing at the combine was top 10 in every single area except one, including finishing second in a couple of them and a 15.9 in the beep test. Averaged 15 possessions in the TAC Cup and won clearances as a midfielder as well as having an impact up forward. Can play inside and outside without a worry after being more of an outside type earlier in his career because of his running capacity. A very level-headed and humble young man to go with all that, which he proved by coming back to us and knuckling down after missing out in the draft last year. For him to come and play the way he did this year showed great competitiveness and burning desire to make it and in the end he was rewarded by winning our best and fairest. – Murray Bushrangers coach Darren Ogier

He was consistent in the backline but because he was pulled in so many different directions – school football, Stingrays, Vic Country – it was a difficult year. He has a lot of upside and is going to go somewhere in life with his career as well as his football. He can be a bit of an over-thinker at times but he is a good player. – Stingrays talent manager Mark Wheeler

in a similar vein. i really wanted us to chase mitch hallahan even before the trade period. i couldnt work out how we could be interested in greenwood and not be into hallahan. hallahan fit the so called criteria to a tee.

funny enough i wanted both boys in their draft yrs.

According to RodneyDangerfield on BF, Under-19 Aussie Cricket captain Pat McKenna has spoken to us. He was encouraged to nominate for the draft by recruiters including ours apparently.

"So I asked Rod McPherson about him. He's from the area and I respect his opinion on junior talent more than anyone I can think of.
He was emphatic about him.
I think Mr Magic said he was compared to a Steve Johnson type and that's pretty much what Rod said.
Compared him to Breust.
He led the goalkicking from half forward in the seniors for Gisborne in the Bendigo league this year and kicked 9 in a game. Played one under 18 game and kicked 16.
McPherson reckons he's just a pure pure footballer with awesome kicking skills and awareness.
Still young enough that if he doesn't go this year can play TAC cup next year."

I suspect if we want him we may have to bite in the 2nd. I could be way off, but my suspicion is the latest he'll go is to the Dogs in the 40s.

Then again guys like Cal Twomey have him going even further than that, so 3rd round may be possible.

STRONG CHANCES

Dan Howe (Yarrawonga): Impressive performances for Victoria Country, Richmond VFL and the Murray Bushrangers have him in line for a mid-to-late draft selection. Can play at both ends of the ground and capped off a great season with three goals in the elimination final.

Nathan Drummond (Mooroopna): Talented midfielder looks a good chance of being picked up in the 30 to 50 bracket. Won the John Byrne Medal as the Bushrangers’ best and fairest player this season. Played for Vic Country and Richmond’s VFL team and was clearly the best performer at the national draft combine, where he demonstrated his unique double of a 2.93 second 20-metre sprint and 15.9 beep test.

IN THE MIX

Nick Mellington (Benalla): The Bushrangers skipper suffered illness early in the year which inhibited his start to the season. Made up for lost ground with a stellar last part of the season, including two solid games with the Richmond VFL team. A big-bodied midfielder who wins his own ball and has a raking left-foot kick.
