Yeah good on you Carlton.

Bring Eddie Betts back at the ripe age of 33, compared to Butler at 23...

Dig your own grave you bastards

A little bit of inside info from a reliable 3rd party.  He wants to stay at Richmond but not sure we can fit him in with what he wants to be paid.
I don't think this is a big secret.

SOS and the Scum just upset they'll have to cough up something for Butler, instead of the entitled expectation that they just get a premiership player for free (or next to).

Hope he stays, and kicks bags in big finals, while Carlton continue to linger on the bottom of the ladder and watch on from their armchairs.

"what he wants to be paid"? what does that mean?

What he wants and what's available can be miles apart

And if they rookie him isn't rookies paid a fixed amount under the CBA?

Yes that's why he hasn't been offered a contract and has been told to look elsewhere.  Otherwise he will have to be paid less or delisted.

AFL website reckons after missing out on Jamie Elliott, Melbourne will chase Butler.

With the Dees out of the Elliott race, the next-best cheap options on the trade market are Tiger Dan Butler or Port Adelaide's Sam Gray, who have both piqued the interest of Carlton and St Kilda.

Melbourne have joined the race to sign Richmond premiership small forward Dan Butler.

Both St Kilda and Hawthorn are interested in securing Butler’s services.

Jake Niall in The Age reports that St Kilda have a fight on their hands to get Dan Butler

"At the time of writing, the Saints were up to their neck in the contest for Richmond's Dan Butler, who opted not to take up a two-year offer from the Tigers earlier this season, found himself out of the side, and has to find another club," he wrote.

Dan Butler's manager Alex McDonald:

“He loves Richmond, but Richmond has even said if there wasn’t an opportunity at the club, they’d look at doing so. I think it points to him needing to consider his options.

"He's probably been a bit of a victim of being at a great club....he had a great year at VFL level. He loves the club and Richmond have said that if there wasn't an opportunity elsewhere they'd look at something."

“It’s probably down to Carlton and St Kilda. A couple of others have shown their interest.”

So considering he goes, what's he worth as a trade?
I firmly believe he is worth a second round pick (about 25-35).
Maybe we get involved in the Hill trade if it's Saints?

Probably a little less than that I think. More like 35-50.

Early 3rd rounder at best.

St Kilda don't have a 2nd nor 3rd round pick. After pick 6, their next pick is 59 at the start of the 4th round.

Carlton have picks 43 & 48 in the 3rd round. Their next pick is late 4th round #72.

If the Saints really want Dan and want to pip the Blues then maybe we can get in on the Jack Stevens trade.
Geelong <--- Stevens
St Kilda <---- Butler
Richmond <---- pick 37 (from Geelong)

How about giving them Butler for a swap of first round picks  ;D
