Forget Vickery & Griffiths after next year, McBean & McKenzie are our KPF future. :shh
McBean will be delisted within two years if he cant find a physical presence especially in the air.
I have never seen so much Hype about a key forward who just has not shown the attributes to be a good one at the top level.
As a junior his height  reach pace and agility enabled him to be a good defender. He dind't have to be  a strong mark or crash packs he just had to get close enough to the contest to get a fist in.
It was as a kpd that he excelled yet we steadfastly refuse to try him there, and thats  despite having two very similar  players in front of him in  Vickery, Griffiths  who play fwd.

FFS we tried post in defense elton in defense even griffiths yet the one who  showed the most as a junior there we plonk fwd and turn him into a lazy bastard.FFS every statement i read out of the club they keep saying hes to be our future #1 ruckman lol.

Tend to agree about McBean. Every key forward has to be physically imposing, not a crumber. Happily proven wrong though

vickery has kicked 100 goals... not really tony lockett

is gunston physically imposing?

pimples from the drug cheats

cameron is only 89kg
Then he grabbed two chopsticks and stuck them in his mouth , pretending to be a walrus

Yes santa...tops our VFL goalkicking in his first year, despite missing two games, tops it again the second season and comes second in the entire comp., by only 2 goals despite playing 6 games less than the winner, tops it for the third year running and jointly wins it for the entire comp. despite again missing games....kicks over 100 goals in three short interrupted seasons and  getting crap service from a bottom 4 midfield....all while being an out of position defender and showing no attributes as a forward....quite amazing really....

What dark lord said....

History has already proven you wrong.

Buddy, arguably the best forward of our time, is not psychically imposing, at least not in the sense you're referring to. He actually struggles to take a mark over his head and he rarely splits packs. He doesn't have to though, because he uses pace, skill and agility to kick goals. McBean has all those attributes.

Give him time.

As an ex forward myself I watched him closely in the games I went to this year and he is a very natural forward. Leeds well and leeds at the right time. Those 2 things alone will get you shots at goal. You don't have to be lightening quick or even very strong, you just need the timing of a natural forward.
Even in the couple of AFL games he played, without getting much of the footy, he lead well.

Have to watch it again but I'm pretty sure he had at least couple of handy possessions v Collingwood ....and he nearly crumbed a goal v Essendon...

As an ex backman I can tell you McBean would be easy to defend against.

At last, something to do with footy.

And with your reference of being an ex backman people can take your opinion with the hint that you may know what you are talking about. That's all I was trying to do. Nothing more.

And why do you think he would be easy to defend against? He has done pretty well in our twos as a forward against some very good opposition.

Petey there is no need to make people scroll through boring fights between two posters. People like a laugh and some wit but sometimes some comments are just boring and unnecessary.

Anyway I'm happy to move on and I  look forward to your response, as an ex backman, as to why you think McBean would be easy to defend against.

McBean has some good skills but at AFL level he looked to be a bit of a one trick pony. He was getting the 3rd or 4th defender. Yes he's good at ground level, yes he's very agile for his size, but for the most part he was a lead up forward and little else. Did show a bit tho
A tall athletic defender wouldn't have much trouble keeping him quiet. not a skinny defender, think someone in the Jack Hombch/Alex Rance/James Frawley mould. All very good 1v1 and of similar athletic capablities as Bean

Looking forward to seeing McBean and McKenzie in the pre-season matches. Hopefully will be accompanied by kids like Ah Chee and Lennon. Could be a glimpse of the future :D

Riewoldt (lock)
Vickery (lock)

Griffiths
McBean
McKenzie

Who will take the 3rd KPF post? Is it possible to play two of those last three? Jack and Ty are quite good/agile at ground level. Griffiths not and McKenzie probably not, McBean apparently is.

Just add Lennon, Ah Chee and Deledio.

Buddy is very physically imposing. smashing through blokes trying to tackle him, way faster than McBean. People are scared to fill the whole in front of buddy on the lead. Not to mention he's a great tackler. McBean is tall and thats about it. May be swift on his feet for a tall bloke but he isnt fast.

when i saw the bean in the early days i thought he was a huge talent.he was quick, skillfull and tall. The one area that i thought he failed in was marking, especially the contested mark.i have seen minimal improvement in this area.
