I have a casual interest in the game and about as much in Richmond these days.  Hence no enthusiasm for posting on these boards.  Pretty hard to be enthused when you support the most unsuccessful club for the last 35 years in a competition which is getting totally unrecognisable as being entertaining.  I gave up being embarrassed each week and now I laugh at how excited people get when Richmond win a game, because I know they will break your heart the next week.  They are still in my blood and wouldn’t support another team or code, but I don’t have all the emotional turmoil as you people do.  I actually think we are going backwards at the moment, we reached our peak and will have to rebuild.  I think the Suns and Giants robbed us of that opportunity to get some decent kids to take us forward and we’ll pay for that.

My marriage ended around the time we were 3-10 last year.

When you are in a "sucky" marriage - all you have is football . It is your escape. Football can consume your life.

Now I am really enjoying being single again - it's hard to get too upset with the Richmond football club when you have a hot date later that night.

But - if I was still married ....probably be on suspension from the moderators because this club will drive you insane.

That's gold mate.

Congratulations too.

I get plenty of enjoyment out of watching MY team play football.  They are MY side because I chose to barrack for them - against the numbers & against the odds, but I backed them & myself to the hilt!  My parents were Footscray supporters & were married during their (only) premiership year, my Dad was friends with & drinking buddy of the late great Teddy Whitten!  (Yep, my old man used go out drinkin' with Teddy! ;D)
Teddy jokingly ribbed me one day & asked why do I barrack for 'that lot', at 4 years of age I eyeballed Teddy & bellowed out, 'Because I bloody do!'  I even had to stick it up Teddy Whitten face to face to barrack for MY Tigers so I wont be backing down now for anything!  It's ok, I got the last laugh - my folks are 40 year Richmond members now!
I can watch other teams play & get a buzz when Jezza takes a hanger, or Plugger kicks a ton, but none of the enjoyment of the game itself rivals the thrill I get when MY Tigers take the field!  Top of the ladder, bottom of the ladder - makes no difference.  Obviously I prefer to win & obviously I cop plenty when we lose, but none of that really matters & never did.  What matters to me is that I back MY team against any odds, that I fly the flag when no one else dares to!  That's what I call enjoyment & I get plenty of it from MY Tigers!

Being a fair dinkum black & yellow striped football beast who never, EVER says die is what excites me.  Some of you should try it some time ...

Get a grip partner, do you not see any irony in posting such an inane question in a fans forum ...perhaps the question would be better put, why am I here  ::)

Why was his question inane???

I find it a very interesting topic where people can show both positivity and negativity and why.

I look forward to those who don't care about the club taking a leaf & stopping posting on Richmond forums.

We talking about Richmond?
You must be pretty young or not seen many games of the 70s and 80s.
My kind of great game is personalities of the game, someone like Dermie busting through Bomber huddles
Trevor Barker taking speckies every week.  Players been able to tackle and bump ferociously, not being afraid because they looked at someone sideways and the video might catch that.
That there is rivalry between clubs like there's none these days - you know, something that adds to the atmosphere of a game
That every move a person makes is not scrutinised by Caro and her mates to go tutt tutt every week for the most inane thing.  Listening to idiots like McAvaney that make me want to throw up every time i hear him.
Someone said last night that players weren't enjoying themselves either - i agree, this game is not much fun.  I wonder how many of our members that we've recently got are actually enjoying it enough to want to come back.
Edge of the seat stuff, well you don't see that with the Tiges unfortunately and most other games.
Others enjoy the footy for other reasons - tactical stuff, etc, and if they do, that's great.  Just my opinion of why I don't like the game as much as I used to, and if you enjoy it, that's all that matters.

What an immature response to a serious question.

Not to mention the fact you didn't address why his question was inane.

Matey, stuff your elite sport. Takes 2hrs plus for me to get to the G to watch a watered down version of what the game used to be. Go and watch a decent game of local non elite footy and see what footy used to be about.

The worlds gone soft and the AFL has made sure it's followed suit. The game was fine for a 100 years and they decided in their wisdom to change a heap of rules.

Blokes diving hard with courage at the footy to win possession and getting penalised for making contact with someone's legs, give me a spell. We are heading towards netball.

Will be a better game when the stupid sub is removed and massive caps are put on the interchange numbers. The way the game has evolved is comical. Watch the 1989 GF and tell me footy wasn't more enjoyable back then.

Rules committee, LMAO

Listen I don't pretend what we are going through is in any way enjoyable. However the hatred emotion doesn't fit for me that's why I say it's elite sport that ebbs and flows. Our run last year to make finals was as exciting as it would ever get. I hope that we can get so me of that form back of they'll be blood on the floor

Melbourne beat us by 5 goals.

Following week Dees get pumped by the Dockers by 70 points.

Says a lot.

This is outrageous coming from a Tiger but I am more interested in watching the Bulldogs, Saints and even the Pies more than the Tigers this year. The Tiges are almost unwatchable if you like free flowing footy.
I enjoy the defensive side of the game and we aren't much chop there either. Have a look at Collingwood, they are playing a tight zone and strangling sides with it. It is so tight almost every one of them can peel off their man and help with the contest. How are they getting away with this? Sides are playing weak, conservative footy, Buckley is using basketball tactics (It looks like an 18 man 3/4 court press) to pick off predictable sluggish sideways kicks and they are running into open goals. Footscray and St Kilda are pretty much doing the same thing.
Meanwhile at Tigerland our players can win all of the major stat categories yet still lose the game. That is a damning stat in itself and Dimma should be ashamed of that.
I think our cattle are pretty good up until the discards and recycleds so it's not a complete disaster.
Yes I am talking bout a 2-3 year mini rebuild. Let's trade off a couple of our stars and give the list a refresh.

My thoughts exactly.
