RICHMOND

Selections before academy and father/son bidding: 12, 51, 78, 84

Selections after bidding: 15, 50, 67

Who they picked: Daniel Rioli, Oleg Markov, Nathan Broad

Callum Twomey's verdict:
Francis Jackson and his recruiting team might have won themselves a reputation as 'bidders' after draft night. The Tigers placed bids on Matthew Kennedy at No.13 and Eric Hipwood at No.14, and also placed a bid on father-son selection Bailey Rice at No.49. All were unsuccessful, but at least they called the player's name where they ranked them and put their hand up when the players warranted bids (if not earlier). Daniel Rioli filled the Tigers' search for a small forward at their first choice – No.15 overall – after Callum Ah Chee had already been taken by the Suns. The Tigers then grabbed Oleg Markov and added another mature body to their midfield by selecting Nathan Broad, who they will be hoping can offer some impact at AFL level straight away.

Why? You put a bid in for the best available players at your pick. So they obviously thought the 2 GWS academy boys were better than Rioli. What's so stupid about that?

if we had pick 20 or 30 or 40 then yes

given we had pick 51 it seemingly didn't make much difference

outside of massaging dimmas policeman egotistical faults

Are you happy with Markov? Because we might not have landed him if we didn't.

GWS could of just snapped up their academy player and someone like Markov for 2 picks in the thirties. So even if it wasn't to actually try and get the player at least we kept them honest. FFS GWS have had enough concessions but you just want them to get more hand outs and get even more young talent into their team?

WEST Coast draftee Tom Cole is hoping for some success with his new club after a childhood full of disappointment as a Richmond supporter in Victoria.

Cole was drafted by the Eagles with pick No.36 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft from the Bendigo Pioneers.

The 18-year-old said he was rapt to join West Coast after supporting a team that hadn't tasted much success in his lifetime.

"I followed the Tigers," Cole said.

"It was a bit of a rough sort of childhood."
