apparently a stinker with Victoria having a particularly bad pool this time around

good news for (some of) mcdonuts, foley, conca, dea, gordon types that might of been otherwise moved on?

I think each club has to have 3 picks minimum anyway. Unless they changed that rule. We should trade for players this time around and bring in 3 kids.

Just upgrade Thomarse, Arnott & Lambert with our first three picks and then pass.

An phenomenal stat:

85% of inside mids drafted since 2001 have been a success. It is a far greater success rate than other player types.

How the hell do Sydney and the Giants get picks 3 and 4 irrespective of how high they finish? Unbelievable.

If SOSOS (son of son of Serge) keeps up his current form then Carlton might not have Pick 1 to play with unless they can rake in some highish picks with a trade cleanout.  I don't think he is going to come cheaply under the new rules.

From Emma Quayle in the Age ...

How's the depth of this year's draft?

Not great. The strength of Metro generally dictates the strength of the draft and this looks like being an off year (let's hope it's a rare one). The first batch of players look very good and clubs would be happy with a pick in the first dozen or so. From then on it's easy to see some some being open to trading out of the first round, which may create opportunities for clubs like Carlton should they go looking for a second first-round pick. Vic Country will provide plenty of first-round talent, SA can be relied upon to provide a handful of solid picks and a few are bound to come through from WA despite concerns from recruiters about why their team has been so poor. New South Wales should also make up some of the slack - 10 or 12 players could be drafted from the NSW/ACT team - but this might be a draft where clubs look to trade or take their minimum picks and get out, rather than load up like a handful of them did last year.
