If we we're to remain No.1 for crowds this year, it will be the first time since 1982 we've topped total league attendances after the H/A season.

After Round 19

                       Agg        Avg             Agg         Avg

Richmond       469673      52186         875321       48629
Collingwood    416396      46266         871606       48423

              Rich             Coll
R20:   GC (MCG)      Syd (SCG)

Still No.1 and given we play the Pies this week, it will remain so for another week  :thumbsup.

We need a further 87.2k to break the million mark.

Richmond crowds up 10,000, now biggest in AFL

Grant Baker
Herald-Sun
August 20, 2015

RICHMOND has shaded Collingwood to become the biggest draw in football this season with average crowds to Tigers games almost 10,000 up on 2014 figures.

The AFL’s overall average attendances are up — thanks mostly to the Richmond factor — despite 11 clubs playing in front of smaller crowds this year.

The league is unlikely to eclipse last year’s total home-and-away season crowd figure of 6.4 million attendances because of the abandoned Adelaide v Geelong match following the death of Crows coach Phil Walsh.

The figures, which include clubs’ home and away games, show Richmond’s remarkable rise. The Tigers average crowd in 2014 was a tick over 38,000 — it is now more than 48,000.

The club also has broken through the 70,000 member barrier this year, joining fellow MCG tenant giants Collingwood and Hawthorn.

Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale said the Tigers players — set for a second successive finals campaign — appreciated the turnouts.

“We enjoy fantastic support that we will never take for granted,” Gale told the Herald Sun. “Our players appreciate the fact they get to play in front of passionate Richmond fans all around Australia.”

The Western Bulldogs — widely lauded as the most exciting team to watch this year — have also enjoyed a large upturn in attendances, with average crowds approaching 27,000.

Crowds for Hawthorn and GWS matches are also significantly up.

The Champion Data figures show Essendon, Carlton and the Gold Coast Suns are significantly on the nose with fans this season.

Average attendance at AFL matches so far this season is 32,548 — just up from 32,333 in 2014.

AVERAGE CROWDS 2015

Adelaide 35,992 (-1364)

Brisbane Lions 20,715 (-668)

Carlton 35,967 (-2554)

Collingwood 47,895 (+410)

Essendon 42,102 (-2351)

Fremantle 31,389 (+130)

Geelong 34,894 (-832)

Gold Coast 18,062 (-2779)

GWS Giants 19,157 (+3075)

Hawthorn 43,491 (+2282)

Melbourne 30,387 (+570)

North Melbourne 26,703 (-1356)

Port Adelaide 34,873 (-296)

Richmond 48,044 (+9873)

St Kilda 26,401 (-1088)

Sydney 33,065 (-268)

West Coast 30,478 (-970)

Western Bulldogs 26,558 (+2368)

How accurate are these figures? GWS?

Where have their away games been?

Sell outs in WA and Adelaide would help the figures.

Great stuff from everyone involved, from the top right down to the little guy heading off to one or two games a year.

Why arn't we signing $3 million dollar naming rights deals though? What does M.E pay for the naming rights?

We should get Commonwealth Bank to sponsor Punt Road Oval. The colors are the same and they are the biggest in the banking field in Australia. CBA would be a great sponsor.

Doesn't matter now. But it was significant

ME Bank sponsorship ends at the end of this year (oct) and they advised the Club last year they wouldn't be renewing the deal

They're Home & Away figures combined. That's why GWS is 19k.

We're No.1 for Home crowds too at an average of 50k.

Are we expecting a huge new deal?
I would suggest it might be on the cards due to our resurgence.

Thanks, OE. I didn't read the article with enough attention.
