If the AFL is serious about showing Phil Walsh respect, along with the non-playing of the team songs across all games this weekend, maybe we could have a weekend off from all the ads and ground announcements as well. That I'd like to see.
we left early to beat the crush so did not witness it personally, but i was told after the Melbourne Westcoast game when the players joined in the middle, they continued to blare adds and crap over the PA system.

How much solance could one find from this small gesture of respect?????????????

No team song played, but adds and garbage polluting the airwaves.

Pretty much sums up what the AFL has become,
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

Al, I went to a couple of games and this didn't happen. In fact, the crowd was silenced once they realised what the 2 teams were doing.
Was pretty powerful.

We must all grieve, and it must be in the way the AFL tells us to.

Death dollars indeed.

Advertisers would know the footage of players arm in arm after the siren would make the highlight reels and get further exposure.

Capitalism at its most brutal and yes it's a disgrace.

it wasnt the crowd playing the ads over the PA

I'm not sure what you're getting at here but was simply saying that the players linking arms around the centre circle was pretty powerful as a football moment.
Obviously any noise over the top impacts that.
I'd love to know what your post was implying .....

The game has been commercialised to the extent that its rat poo

The one time the could cut the ads, is during the moment of respect for the murdered senior coach. Instead of attempting to sell dish washing detergent or whatever product it was

Sad state of affairs

Don't disagree at all but that happened in Darwin, what happened Friday night was set up by the coaches who wanted to do something at the end of the game as a mark of respect (people actually stopped talking and cheering) nothing to do with the afl and the other coaches followed. No ads fri night or sat pm.
