Start by showing FJ & BH the door. How long does a club have to put up with substandard recruiting?
Pay the money and get some decent recruiters.

The development is still a concern after the club has promised us that it's an area of prime importance. I still think they can get better people that can do a better job, whatever they are doing isn't enough and thanks to the faithful fans, money isn't an issue any longer.

The coaching staff need an overhaul. If Hardwick has to be coach,  personally I don't think Hardwick is the guy but if it has to be him then let's get some decent assistance for him and maybe an ex senior coach that can add something to the dynamic. We see Ratten in the Hawks box celebrating and getting lauded by Clarkson for his contribution to the club.
And what the hell does Lade do? Or is he just a good mate?  He's not a career coach looking to coach senior footy? Has he got the passion to succeed and be a part of a dynasty? Let's get some blokes with ideas and a passion to succeed.

Maybe Hardwick is the problem, replacing experienced assistants with 1st year assistants(in the last three years) instead of getting assistants who would be of a calibre to replace him.

Maybe protecting himself will end up costing him his job in the long run.

I think Hardwick needs more help and we have the $$$$$ but aren't prepared to spend them where it's needed.

Hardwick will be under even more pressure next year....be interesting to see his tactics & team selections...reckon well know fairly early on if he's changed his ways and whether it'll be his last year or not...another good early indicator will be the tackling & shepherding.... by then the side will've only had 6 seasons & 7 pre-seasons under him to finally get those two fundamentals right...

If hardwick isn't getting the help he needs then he's too stuffn gutless to have asked for changes or too stuffing stupid to know he needs them.

Frawley
McEvoy
Lake
Gibson
Hail
Burgoyne

Who did I miss?

All from other teams. We are delusional to think a team can be build by drafting alone.
Your right it is all about getting players from every  available area.
The simple fact remains the vast majority of Hawthorns list is made up of blokes who were ORIGINALLY taken in the first three rounds of the nd. 28 OF 39 in fact, with just three players taken above pick 50 in those rounds.
They then utilise the rookie draft exceptionally well.

When they trade  for mature players they trade for proven players,  and those proven players usually have pedigree in the fact they themselves come from the early rounds of the ND.
Burgoyne - Proven player   nd 12,
Gibson - Proven player,  rookie draft.
Frawley - Proven player, ND 12.
McEvoy - Was Tracking nicely nd 9.
Lake - Proven nd 71.
Hale - Proven nd 7.
Sphanger Proven - nd 34.

It is a similar story with the WCE. 30 Of their 38 players on the list proper come from the first three rounds of the nd originally. Just one of those players was taken above pick 50.
WHen they have traded for players those players have either been proven, taken early in the nd or a combination of both.

Cripps - unproven  nd 24.
Ellis -  proven but injury prone nd 3
Kennedy - unproven at what 20yrs,  nd 4.
Wellingham - Proven  rookie.
Yeo - Tracking nicely nd 30.

There are lessons to be learnt in how these sides have gone about things.
What strikes me though is regardless of where their players have come from. ND, Trade, PSD, Rookie or F/A.  The vast majority of both lists is made up of the top 50 kids  originally from each draft.
I could be barking up a tree who knows its just an observation  that may be invalid if i look at all lists.

Any chance you could head down to Punt Road and let them know this please? I don't think they understand this very basic plan.

l said years ago to build a team it must be done around 2 key forwards & ruckman who can change with each other. We had the players but didn't use them properly & stuffed around kicking it backwards, sideways, overused, slow ball movement.

When we played long direct football we are a powerful side.

Maric carrying injury. Vickery has to be managed. Griffiths is always banged up  :snidegrin Rewoldt does not have the ball delivered to him properly be it in the air for his strong marking ability or his hard fast leads. When we do go long & direct it works well.

We stuffed around with midfield after midfield & the key for midfield is having strong hip players who can put the block on & take the hits not small body players who get beat to a pulp. Players like Cotchin, Deledio, Edwards, Miles, Griggs, need protection so they can run & carry the ball out. Players strong like Martin, So we need to draft or trade or snag a strong hip player in a Tuck, Judd, Hodge, that can stand there & have players swinging off them. Until then we will not be a top 4 side. Lambert l see as a very good player who can take over from Cotchin or Miles. We need a Bennell in the half forward area & leave Deledio up forward.
