When Patrick Bowden pulls on the famous Yellow and Black guernsey for the first time in the 2006 season, the Bowdens will become only the fourth family in Richmond’s league football history to have three brothers represent the Club at senior level.
Patrick, who was traded by the Western Bulldogs to Richmond late last week, joins his older brother Joel at Punt Road, with another brother, Sean, having played with the Tigers in the early 1990s.
The Bowdens will step up to the elite ‘three-brothers’ list at Tigerland upon Patrick’s Richmond debut, joining the Bowers (1980s-90s), the Weatherills (1910s-20s) and the Rush clan (1910s-1920s).
There have been several other instances in the Tigers’ history of brothers playing under 19s or reserve-grade football, but not going on to join their siblings in senior company at the Club.
I have not included those players in the following list of Tiger ‘brothers-in-arms’. The playing career details (courtesy of ‘The Tigers Of Old’ book) relate to Richmond senior games only, and the surnames appear in alphabetical order . . .
