Not unhappy but would've given Butler a crack first.....

Agree totally with this ^
Butler did play well against Geelong in the VFL, has a more mature body and is ready to play AFL.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Last year he was dogged by his injured knee and missed many games so I can't see how you can pass judgement on him from those appearances.
I watched him closely against Geelong last Friday. Got the first clearance and his kick set up the forwards shot at our first goal. Ran out of the centre in the third quarter and slammed a goal form 55m out. Got several other touches too. In thought he did enough to get a game as he laid 6 tackles as well.
If Rioli is twice the player then I haven't seen it yet in the NAB cup games. I hope your right....

Ok , so I used a little poetic licence :)

I also watched Geezer Butler closely last Friday as I do rate the kid and believe he will get some games this year but Daniel just oozes class & style already, he has played up to 1/2 back in the NAB & I believe is more rounded than Geezer.

Pretty shocked if it's the case. Hope he kicks a couple against poo defence
LOL their defence is probably the strongest part of their team although they do have their version of Chaplin and Astbury in Sam Rowe.
The fwd line had to change Lloyd was almost a certainty to play after the preseason id say Rioli got the nod over Lennon, We lose a bit in the air but gain a very quick player who hopefully can not only kick a couple but apply much needed fwd pressure especially with the lumbering Vickery Riewoldt And Griffiths being selected.
Good on em for at least giving the kid a go and trying to do something about what has been a huge problem for us.
The good sides are playing three talls and then in a lot of cases three smalls. Hawks rioli, bruest, puopolo, Freo Walters, Ballantyne, and now Bennell. Wce  lecras, hill, cripps.

I could actually live with Rioli, Butler and Lloyd as long as they can all hit the scoreboard and provide that pace and pressure. We will have to wait and see what they can bring to the table as a group there is no guarantee any of them will become good players.

Absolutely agree
Has Butler's form at AFL level been better than Rioli's this pre-season?
Does Butler have a bigger upside?
Or is it just that Butler is a bigger body?

I must admit I haven't seen much of Butler at all.

Dan hasn't had much of a go this preseason. Played for a short period in NAB 1 and that's all. Rioli has been given all the chances.
Not a favorite?

Has he done anything in a Vfl game?

Obviously rioli has not yet he brings something different
Then he grabbed two chopsticks and stuck them in his mouth , pretending to be a walrus

Played well in his only hit out so far. Almost more possessions in one game than Rioli has in 3. :shh

Nothing against Rioli. Just don't think he is AFL ready yet.

Hope he has a blinder and proves me very wrong. :gotigers
