Needs to persisted with now...the more he plays the better he'll get and I suspect the improvement will be quite rapid once he gets comfortable...

...and Rioli's defensive efforts are actually real rather than an illusion.....

Just play the kid and tell him to tackle everyone and anything.
All the other stuff will come with that.
I thought he was fantastic on Thursday night.
Again he is a kid that doesn't get flustered when he has the ball in close.
Forget about kicks and handballs for awhile gents and just let him get some confidence being out there and I'll bet he will pay that back in spades towards the end of the year.
Actually really happy with a few young guys coming through (Rioli, Menadue, C.Ellis) as they have all shown to me they will be good player for a long time and will force some of the older more average guys out of the side. Let's hope a few other young guys can come through too. (Broad, Castagna and maybe Butler or Drummond)

I'd love to see a side without Houli, Grigg, Chaplin and Hampson by the end of the year as this is the only way we are going to improve from a middling side to a top 4 side.
Id also like to see that side without B. Ellis but that's not going to happen with Dimma in charge I recon.

Looked good with some of his efforts but I was admittedly fuming when he missed that goal after Jack earned a shot right in front.

It's good to give a young player like Rioli a taste of what is expected from him in a AFL game. Now he knows what is required. In the team next week or not. Best time to give him a go against the scum team.  :snidegrin

His pressure was extraordinary.  At one point chased 4 separate carlton players from the wing back to our forward line and hassled them all. Fantastic solo effort while the rest of the team looked on.....

i saw that at the ground, you don't get to see stuff like that on TV but his work ethic is awesome. that chase down on (think it was tuohy) he was out of reach at 1st & had the nous to grab his jumper to pull him in then complete the tackle. keep playing the kid & he will only improve.

Yep. His pressure was very noticeable from the top deck. He was busting his ass to put heat on the kicker. Second and third efforts. Great to see.
I think he belongs in the seniors.

Chol and rioli would cause havoc with pressure in the forwar line

For a good 2o mins at least

Chols pressure is excellent.

For about half a quarter, sadly

Riolis genuine chasing and tackling is brilliant

Dimma discussing Rioli's debut:

“He started off well and should have finished with two (goals),” Hardwick said.

“He did some good things - some terrific tackling.  I think he had six tackles, 50-odd pressure points.

“Possession-rate, once again, will improve.

“He started to get a bit tired, and got a corky halfway through the third quarter.

“I thought it was an okay game.

“He’ll certainly build on it.  Every game he’s played he’s got better and better.

“We’d like it if he’d hit the scoreboard a little bit more, but he’s got some upside, there’s no doubt.

“He’s incredibly quick and keen to learn also.”

Leave this kid in and build the team around him for the next 5 years. Trade every other player we can. Except Jack, Rance and Martin
DIMMA - You will be held ACCOUNTABLE...

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.
