Had a poor game but has banked some cred. At times he hedges his bets when he should be more defensive......Sorry 'bout the cliches :)

People expecting Rioli to be a 20 possesion player still mightjt have to wait a year or two but his chasing & harrassing is invaluable if not always focused and no small reason reason why we're 5 from 7....

RICHMOND young gun Daniel Rioli will lead a contingent of Tigers players and coaches to his home on the Tiwi Islands over the bye week.

Teammates Shane Edwards, Jack Riewoldt, Jayden Short, and Dylan Grimes will be joined by coaches Justin Leppitsch, Craig McRae, Xavier Clarke and football boss Dan Richardson on the four-day trip.

The players and coaches will be introduced to Rioli’s family and will get the opportunity to learn more about indigenous people.

Rioli family tree ...

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-05-27/aboriginal-footballs-first-family

Loved that article, Maurice one of the most revered players in AFL/VFL to play under 200 games. Dan seemed a little off last night, perhaps the occasion got to him but he'll be playing another dozen Dreamtime games so I'm tipping he will come to dominate the game in years to come
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

He's worth his spot just for his pressure alone.

Another very average game IMO.  4 kicks in 4 quarters.
And another dropped chest mark.

Never mind, he is a Rioli

understand your point but Castagna & Bolton both only had 4 kicks as well...

So I would think to for all 3 you need to look at more than the number of kicks.... if you are just going to base it on kicks then you'd say they were all "very average"

My view is they all played their roles and did well in the key category they appear to be 'graded" on and that's pressure acts & tackles where they all did well

Rioli = 14 & 3
Bolton = 30 & 5
Castagna = 19 & 5

and I'd also raise the idea of "perceived" pressure like they do with Rance, that is how the opposition perceives the pressure coming form the 3 of them

Would love to see them get more of the ball but if F50 defensive pressure and keeping it in there is their main job, they are all doing it and they did last night in spades

A Rioli should always be in yellow and black. I don't care what Sheedy reckons but the Rioli name was always synonymous with Richmond. We should recruit every Rioli that's available. It's criminal that Cyril ended up and the Dawks or Dean got rookie listed to Essendrug.

I don't know why your knocking Daniel as he's got the tricks and X factor. Plain to see the upside if you ask me.

Castagna on the other hand is a trier but has some limitations which he may be able to improve on. But in the end out of the three amigos he looks the most deficient.

 Don't get me wrong I like the all kids but it seems your usual grace for the youngsters that show abit is a little lost on Rioli for some reason & I'm not sure why.

You can't 'gift' blokes a game due to their name.. He needs to lift.
