I think it would be a mistake to play him before the bye.
I don’t.

If his foot doesn’t hurt and feels great and he has his touch back, i would play him even this week.
The club that keeps giving.

I feel it would be a mistake to rush him into the side.

I also feel it would be a mistake to be overly cautious when it isnt necessary. Just let the boy play!

Having said all that, I trust the RFC medical staff to make the correct call more than the nuffies on OER.  :rollin

Good call.  Too important to rush and needs match hardening

Yep good call, was blowing hard by halftime last week.

May be ready for the port game if he gets through this weeks game unscathed.

Richmond development coach Xavier Clarke provides an insight into rising Tiger star Daniel Rioli’s progression on the comeback trail from the broken foot he suffered in last year’s Grand Final triumph.

His impressive rehabilitation work

“He started running after Christmas on his own, on the AlterG machine. He had a few complications in terms of a bit of soreness in that foot when he started running, so it pushed him back a week or so. But he’s been absolutely fantastic with his ‘rehab’. His body shape looks really good. He’s put on a bit of strength as well, which is great when you can do that when you’re in rehab and you’re not always running. He’s probably been running now for three months in total and full training for about at least four weeks. So he’s trained really hard over the past few months now.”

His return to the playing field

“He’s played two games now in the VFL. One (against Sandringham) was about 50 percent game time and on the weekend (v Coburg) probably about 70 percent. So just building up his game time in that sense . . .”

His performance last weekend

“Daniel’s never really been a big possession-getter for us, so these numbers are actually pretty pleasing (14 disposals in 70 percent game time v Coburg). He looked really dangerous around the ball, and with his elite pressure . . . his second and third efforts. He played a little bit of time in the midfield as well . . . try to get him around the ball a bit more and use some of his speed up and around the ground. So exciting times to come.”

His touch after a long lay-off

“It hasn’t affected him at all. He’s elite. Even on the weekend, the VFL had a 10.40am game, there was a bit of dew on the oval, and I think Daniel was probably our cleanest player. His touch has always been his biggest strength. It’s just about him getting enough conditioning now back into his legs to play at AFL level.”

Fantastic today. Summed up by his 8 tackles and that 150m effort that set up his goal in the last  :clapping.

Rioli magic returns to the 'G

The band is officially back together. Damien Hardwick relished the prospect of seeing Daniel Rioli return this week alongside small forwards Jason Castagna and Dan Butler and they delivered in spades. Rioli picked up 12 disposals, laid eight tackles and provided the match-sealing goal after a brilliant string of efforts on the members' wing late in the final term. The 21-year-old beat Zach Guthrie one-on-one, kept the ball alive and pushed it forward to Jack Riewoldt. He then followed up his work with a crunching tackle on Mitch Duncan to win a free kick for holding the ball and coolly slotted the set shot to ice the game.

Gutsy but very intelligent effort. A lot more footy brains than George and Butler.

Did anyone else think he looked like his foot was bothering him a bit in the last qtr?

From the first quarter I knew straight away that we were in for a treat from Rioli. He is the Keystone of the flea amigos and that 150m running effort was truly a thing of beauty
