The fact he was gifted games at the top level at the start of his career may have something to do with it

Think you are right Chuck

Similar to a few that have gone before him

And he like them (hi BEllis) don't get it when they get dropped

Excuse me. Belly worked his ass off any time he got dropped. Rioli has been omitted at least 4 or 5 more times than the Bellis ever was anyway.

Weird comment.

I'm very irritated.
I work in Africa and they were taking the pee out of me for saving Africa.......

Tom Browne on 7news last night said rivals clubs are showing interest in Daniel Rioli given he's been dropped to the ressies. Browne adding that Daniel might be the one to fall out if Bolton gets the big money.

Tom Who?

I think after last night we now realise it's not really riolis, Lynch or anyone's fault where we are at right now.

As a collective we are in trouble this year. Game plan sucks, wrong selection choices, shocking beat us? Leppa leaving, players not gelling due to injuries and age is catching up with some of our best

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

Daniel Rioli

The club has opened talks with Rioli on a new deal according to AFL Media, with a two-year extension on the cards. Still, he can’t find a regular senior spot and is again on the outer at the selection table, playing VFL yet again and managing just 10 senior games and two as substitute in 2021. Fox Footy analyst David King believes the Tigers could fetch a “high second-round” pick for the 24-year-old in a move that would be beneficial to both parties.

THE “AMICABLE SEPARATION” THAT COULD SUIT THE TIGERS

By Andrew Slevison
SEN
2 July 2021

Daniel Rioli and Richmond could both benefit from an “amicable separation”, according to David King.

The triple premiership small forward finds himself out of the line-up having been omitted by the Tigers on several occasions in 2021.

Rioli, 24, is out of contract this year and King feels a change would do both parties the world of good.

“No one is guaranteed a spot and if you’re out of the team you’re up for grabs,” King said on Fox Footy.

“It would be good for both parties wouldn’t it? They’d get some good currency.

“In reality at the moment I think he’d be worth probably a high second-round pick.

“He’s a three-time premiership player, he’s cashed in at Richmond, they’ve been good for each other.

“I think it would be an amicable separation if that were to be the case.”

Rioli’s manager Ralph Carr indicated in May that the former first-round pick was set to sign an extension with the club.

“Daniel’s will be done pretty soon I’m hoping,” Carr told AFL.com.au.

“I think that one will be done in the next couple of months.”

Rioli has kicked 89 goals from 107 games across his Richmond career which started back in 2016.

He was this year joined at Punt Road by his uncle Maurice Rioli Junior who was selected by the Tigers in the 2020 draft.

Hardwick said Daniel Rioli had impressed in a new role at half-back in the VFL and was ready for a senior return.

“His run and carry is back, which is really exciting for us. He is winning and halving contests, he is really excited by the challenge, as are we,” he said.

What did we all think of Rioli's game as a HB/small defender?

15 disposals (5k, 10h, 3c, 12u, 93% eff.)
3 marks
1 tackles
0 inside 50s
0 clearances
3 intercepts
1 scoring involvement
46m gained

Is he supposed to be a replacement for houli? What did he run and carry? The drinks?

By the metres gained stat was he running and kicking backwards? Or was he playing for the pies?

Hilarious if it wasn’t tragic.  :rollin

Put a 0 on the end of that stat and then we will take him seriously.

Solid for his first AFL attempt there. Better than Houli. And more effective than up forward. Freed up Baker to go forward.

That's why I thought solid.

Not sure what or who else we can try.

Only Chol had less metres gained on the entire field.

What is a running half back supposed to do except defend, Run and carry, create plays and gain metres?

He failed in that position. Hopeless.

Far from hopeless! Can't recall to many lost critical contests by Rioli. The run and carry will develop in time no problems. Was a solid outing given it's the first time playing this position in the big time.

My thoughts exactly. Negated a few contests.

What was his meters gained? I'm guessing Short had heaps and was BOG?  ::)

OK in a new role I thought.

Keep him there for the rest of the year and see how he goes.
