Take the contract on offer from the Suns and run. Has developed but not to the extent we require.

Mabior Chol (Richmond)

“Mabior Chol is an interesting one, I’m not sure if the interest is there, I don’t think that they’re banging down the door asking for Mabior Chol at the moment.

“What does that mean? Does he stay for less than what as I say in any other year there might be money and a bit more interest around, I don’t think there’s the interest there.”

Andy Maher believes Richmond’s Mabior Chol would be a great fit at North Melbourne should he decide to leave Punt Road this off-season.

Mitch Cleary on the AFL website podcast:

- Can't play both Chol and CCJ in the same side with Soldo returning. Chol the likely one to leave.
- Gold Coast showing strong interest.
- A few Victorian clubs keeping watch.

That first quarter in the Dreamtime match must've really made an impression...

BOMBERS ZERO IN ON TIGERS FREE AGENT

ESSENDON has doubled down on its interest in Mabior Chol, attempting to lure the Richmond ruck/forward across town in a move that won't cost a single pick.

AFL.com.au understands the Bombers have set their sights on Chol who this year qualifies as an unrestricted restricted free agent where he is able to walk to his club of choice.

Chol is one of 77 free agents still up for grabs as clubs prepare for the off-season.

The 24-year-old's career-best performance in Richmond's Dreamtime win in Perth this year provided plenty of consideration for the Bombers as he collected 19 disposals to go with 19 hitouts playing as the Tigers' No.1 ruckman.

The Queenslander has a number of suitors from across the competition including Gold Coast.

Should he land at Tullamarine he would be seen as a foil for emerging ruckman Sam Draper who has this year shared the ruck duties with forward Peter Wright.

Even after re-signing key trio Zach Merrett, Darcy Parish and Jake Stringer, the Bombers have room to move in their salary cap after losing Joe Daniher, Orazio Fantasia and Adam Saad last year.

Chol qualifies as a free agent having previously been delisted by the Tigers and re-rookied at the end of 2018. Should he move, the Tigers would receive a free agency compensation pick dependent on the size of his new deal.

Yes but Essendon were our opponents the Dreamtime match and they're the club supposedly chasing him... :shh :shh

Reckon when you look at the contract lists then Chol probably has to go as a rf/a or a few trades of contracted players have to happen.

The way it is going with re signings i can see a lot of swapping picks this year for next season or us trading away a lot of picks to get higher up the draft.

If he does go i hope they dont target another ruck fwd type instead targeting a GENUINE PURE  TALL FWD.

Mitch Cleary thinks Essendon would be interested in Chol as someone to partner Peter Wright up forward and because Chol played his "career best game" in Dreamtime against the Bombers.

There's suitors out there where Chol will be able to get more money outside of Punt Rd but it all depends on how it falls with Coleman-Jones.

Athletic teammate Mabior Chol is sought by Essendon and North Melbourne as a versatile tall who could play in the ruck or as a key forward.

Unlike Coleman-Jones, Chol is an unrestricted free agent, so he can walk to other clubs without Richmond having the chance to match contract terms offered and force a trade.

If the contract offer for Chol is sufficiently high Richmond could still receive a compensation pick in return.

Sam Edmund on SEN:

Mabior Chol (Richmond)

“He’s likely to walk to Essendon as an unrestricted free agent.”

Interstate move on cards for Chol

The race for Mabior Chol takes another twist.

Mabior Chol could be set for a move up North to the Gold Coast with his time at Richmond seemingly coming to an end.

Chol is out of contract at the end of the season and is keen to play senior football now. With Richmond having re-signed Jack Riewoldt for another year and Ivan Soldo set to return from a knee injury, those opportunities may not come at Richmond.

SEN's Sam Edmund reported early on Tuesday morning that Chol would "walk" to Essendon, but those reports have been rebutted by the Herald Sun.

The Herald Sun report is claiming that Chol will instead be heading North to be closer to family with the decision coming down to either the Suns or the Saints. Chol's family lives in Shailer Park making the Suns frontrunners per the report.

Gold Coast are desperate for ruck stocks with Jarrod Witts recovering from an injured ACL and Zac Smith retiring.

Chol would be the perfect foil for Witts as well as provide a helping hand to star forward Ben King.

The Saints are looking to Chol as a replacement for Paddy Ryder who just penned a new one-year deal. Ryder will likely be rested at times throughout 2022, which may be his final season.

The Suns can offer Chol regular senior footy now though. And that maybe the sticking point for Chol.

He wants to play regular football now and it's hard to see him going to Moorabbin to wait at least another year.

Chol did play 10 of the last 11 games of the 2021 season but it remains doubtful he plays ahead of Soldo when he returns.
