On the other hand, if he comes back refreshed, is fit by the the start of the season and has a good year it may show that the excessive work load is counter productive?

only time will tell.

Please. It's ridiculous to suggest he signed on for half of what he was offered elsewhere which is what you originally did. And I have contacts at Freo so don't even try, you don't know what he was offered.

Should be on 900k give me a break. He probably was our best player last year but Cotchin, Riewoldt & Deledio have done far more over the course of their careers and none of them ask for an extra 3 months off

Where did you pull 3 months from ? Clearly your date
Players returned during the week & break for xmas in 3 weeks, they then return in January along with  Rancey, at worst he misses 4 weeks FFS

We finish in September, he returns in January. You're right, that's 4 months away not 3.
You clearly stated an extra 3 months off. When you take the Christmas break into account, it's barely 4 weeks extra leave. Hardly something that the club would baulk at if it meant signing him, especially for unders.

As you are clearly not interested in a factual discussion , I will leave you to entertain yourself

FTR, I shouldn't have said extra 3 months. I meant how long he'd be getting off in total compared to our best players (Lids Cotch Jack) and everyone else on the list really. My mistake
Though you blokes are kidding yourself if you don't think the players have an issue with how much longer he gets off. Sorry, but they return in November and he returns in January. That's a much longer break whatever way u want to spin it

who knows. would be good to havethe entire group was together pre-christmas though IMO. I don't think anyone should be considered above the rest of the team even if he is a star player.

the best thing rance can do in the offseason is convert grigg so we dont have to see him for another 2 months

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

agree, dont like the one rule for some and another for others.
(bit like how one person can post something but another cannot quote that post without the censors kicking in, here)

I do wonder, though, if you maintain some semblance of fitness, how long does it take to get up to max fitness? surely 10-12 weeks is enough?

Is starting pre season before christmas  actually counter productive rather than beneficial, in the longer term?

better than doing what the bible tells him to and going out and killing some muslims?

It's hard to say what the best start date truly is. If only there was someone here who knows, someone to enlighten us. maybe a doctor?

I'm just sitting on the fence here so not taking a side, but is he not only missing 3 or 4 weeks more than the rest of the group? He would have only gone back to train with the rest of the older group this week and they all break up again for Christmas anyway. If he's professional enough he will keep up some sort of personal training regime that I'm sure would be worked out with the club fitness staff. I don't mind if that's the case, but if he does come back underdone then he can get stuffed  ;D

So barely over 3 weeks extra leave that the senior group agreed to is a problem for you? Seriously, what are you going on about? Sure in the ideal world everyone has the same conditions. But no one is on the same pay either yet we all accept that. It meant that Rance stayed at Richmond and if that was the price it took to keep him, it was a damn good bargain!

Barely over 3 weeks leave lol. He finished playing in September and won't return until January. As far as I know, every single player in the AFL apart from Rance returns in November. But hey who cares right, it's not unusual or unfair on the other boys.

Lol

About 2/3rds of all press conferences are PR orchestrated by the corporate affairs dept of the organisation
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Actual there is one other AFL player who gets extra time and that is Nick Riewoldt

He doesn't return to preseason until mid January. Being doing it a couple of years now. Gets extra time because his wife is from the USA

Also, it was well documented that Geelong over the years have given their older players extra time off, ditto Hawthorn more recently

So it's not a new thing as such.
