THE AFL will sound a little different after the end of the 2016 season with veteran commentator Dennis Cometti confirming he will hang up the microphone.

About time - his schtick wore thin years ago. Only concern is whoever replaces him will probably be worse with someone like Basil or Gilligan's halfwitted little brother given a more prominent role.

Might be nice to get a commentator who knows our players names for a change and not smoke oppositon and WA players bats.

Zempalis would be a dissapointing replacement.

I think Basil is definitely been groomed as the heir apparent .

Hopefully Chanel 7 don't do anything foolish like poach Dwayne from fox.

Times like these you really miss Clinton Grybas.

Dennis annoys me a lot. I am sitting there watching a game and a great piece of footy from some random player happens and you hear SFA from Den and Bruce. Then Hodgey or Gazza or Roughy or Cyril kick a drop punt and it's all "gee he's a champion". 'Lingy' sucks as well. Has no trouble bagging the lesser known players but god knows he (and the rest of em) won't call out Hodgey or Lewis for being weak snipers

Been very condescending over the years towards the Tigers has Dennis.

Would love nothing more if his final call is Richmond smashing his beloved WCE in the Grand final.

Glad he is finished.

Crap commentator and annoying voice. Full of bias.

Kind of bloke that makes me want to watch footy with no commentating at all and just crowd noise.

He has been understanding at times. Repeated many times that we were hit by the expansion sides more than any other team as we were rebuilding during the compromised drafts.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

The whole Ch 7 coverage needs an overhaul. It's become very stale which IMO is one of the reasons Friday night ratings are down. They also have the fader on which mutes the crowd noise and atmosphere even when there's a great goal or mark.

I've go to say I don't mind Dennis as he's been pretty funny at times with some humorous clever lines during the call. He might not be the best but he's craps on Brian Taylor who is the worst commentator I've ever heard. Wowee!

Is Brian Taylor the whipping boy of football commentary?
