AFL players' Top 50 ...... (afl site)
« on: March 01, 2016, 04:59:52 PM »
Jack Riewoldt ranked at #47 by his peers.

-----------------------------------------------------------

For the third year, on the eve of the premiership season we've presented the AFL players with the challenge of ranking the best 50 players in the League.

Players from all 18 clubs took part in the survey, with 90 players receiving at least one vote.

We start with players 50-41, with the countdown continuing until Friday, March 18, when the AFL's No.1 player – according to his peers – is revealed.

Top 41 - 50:

41. Harry Taylor
42. Nathan Jones
43. Brent Harvey
44. Tom Hawkins
45. Jack Steven
46. Josh Gibson

47. Jack Riewoldt
Richmond
Forward
Last year's ranking: -
Official AFL Player Rating: 46
Debut: 2007
Games: 180
NAB AFL Fantasy value: $429,000

The club's leading goalkicker for the sixth successive season, Riewoldt continued to mature into a fine leader in 2015. Playing a tweaked role further up the ground, he took more marks (144), won more uncontested possessions (166) and had more inside 50s (75) than in any of his previous eight seasons. His ability to play that role but still kick 54 goals saw him rewarded with his first All Australian selection since 2010. Underwent minor shoulder surgery in the off-season but was still expected to enjoy a full pre-season. Riewoldt started 2016 with a bang in an excellent performance against Hawthorn in the NAB Challenge and will look to keep that form up throughout the year.

48. Bernie Vince
49. Marcus Bontempelli
50. Dylan Shiel

ranked behind hawkins is a bit rough. as a forward Jack had the better 2015. Maybe other clubs don't rate him?

Ranked behind Jack Stephen is an insult. He is a good player, but Riewoldt is a champ.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Lids at #40.

31. Robert Murphy
32. Eddie Betts
33. Jeremy Cameron
34. Shaun Burgoyne
35. Nic Naitanui
36. Andrew Gaff
37. Jake Stringer
38. Taylor Walker
39. Tom Rockliff

40. Brett Deledio
Richmond
Midfielder
Last year's ranking: 49
Official AFL Player Rating: 23
Debut: 2005
Games: 232
AFL Fantasy value: $530,000

Had a massive impact last season and was named All Australian for the second time despite missing five games through injury and suspension. Richmond's vice-captain missed four games between rounds two and five, with the Tigers winning just one of those, highlighting his incredible value to the team. The players recognised his importance to Richmond by moving him up nine spots on the list. Deledio went on to kick 27 goals and averaged 21 possessions and was arguably the Tigers' most valuable player, standing up in big games, including four goals in the brilliant win against Hawthorn in round 18. After managing a calf injury through the pre-season, Deledio will hope to keep the problem under control to maintain his streak of having played at least 18 games every season since he was drafted in 2004.

I'm finding it hard to swallow that the players think Cameron is a better key forward than Jack off 2015.

I'd easily rate Deledio higher than Rockliff as well.

Rockliffs huge games are better than deledio.  We just see them less being in a different state.

For me Rockliff's possessions aren't super damaging. Lids usually has laser like kicks into 50 if he isn't kicking the goals himself. His 4 goal haul against hawks, his game in the EF vs port, and even rnd 7 vs pies he kicked some very important goals

Cotch at #22.

21. Chad Wingard

22. Trent Cotchin
Richmond
Midfielder
Last year's ranking: 13
Official AFL Player Rating: 73
Debut: 2008
Games: 153
AFL Fantasy value: $506,000

A major reason the Tigers pushed to the edge of the top four last year, the captain grew as a leader and was inspirational in some games. One of the game's top midfielders, he lifted his inside game and led the Tigers with 271 contested possessions and ranked No.2 for clearances (112). Still, it wasn't his most consistent season and he will benefit from more midfield support this season. He will be desperate to atone for a quiet elimination final against North Melbourne and lead the Tigers back into September.

23. Dane Swan
24. Aaron Sandilands
25. Nick Riewoldt
26. Callan Ward
27. Jordan Lewis
28. Dayne Beams
29. David Mundy
30. Rory Sloane

Yes he is, would be a different story if he played for Melbourne though

Are you stuffing serious Mat? Are you trying to call Nick Riewoldt a dud because he hasn't won a Coleman? He is arguably the best CHF of the 2000's.

Dear Petey,

I can state very confidently if Nick Riewoldt played for RFC he would be a glass half full type
