Finishing 8th in an 18 horse race

If you backed a horse  who ran 8th three races in a row, would you think they were any good?

What if you finished the race 5th .....then are challenged to a race by the horse that finished ninth....and then lose that ( despite being a mile in front at the halfway)

It's an improvement on the previous decade where we finished 15th in a 16 horse race.

Some on here would argue it's better to finish 15th or 16th than 8th.

The Melbourne way.

If you backed a horse  who ran 8th three races in a row, would you think they were any good?
who is the trainer and who rode the horse in the races?
what distance and what class races?
how old is the horse and what weight was it carrying?

Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

Yes, let's only judge the club against the standards of past Richmond sides and Melbourne to get an easy pass mark every time! :gotigers

Melbourne is an unfair benchmark as they went past us ages ago

HMM logic says that is somewhere in the middle. Does that mean his finishes are middling? lol.

What if it wasnt the end of the race but nothing more  than  the home turn and your sitting 5th coming to the business end of the race where the champion horses always find something extra.
