If it was only that simple

The core product doesn't generate enough revenue to cover the costs of putting the product on  .

Throw in footy is more to than the game that gets played every week

Hence the huge TV deals etc, sponsorship etc

Not sure as fans we'd be overly impressed if we had to cut some of our best players because we couldn't afford to pay them or using a simple example we go back to being aligned t o VFL club because we can't afford to go it alone

Is it lucrative?

Not usually. Councils expect a large cut of the takings. Unless you pay ypur staff stuff all or you regularly have queues out the door you dont make much out od tenders for leisure centres.

How much you make depends on the contract. How much council's get outside of the minimum agreed fees will be dependant on how much the Club makes over a certain theshold amount.

Considering these centres were losing money being run by the council because they couldnt afford to fund them properly then this should be a very good deal by the Club. Granted this area of busoness made a loss last year due to start up costs. The actually revenue component was significant. So done properly I'm epecting solids numbers this year*

Very smart move to tender in the region we have our academy. We have access to facilities we would otherwise have to pay for.

Should be a winner if we do it right.

It is also aligned to the club's overall business undertaking (as opposed to money from pokies) and in an geographical area we want to find prospective young men and women to fill our player ranks.

Council owning these types of businesses dont make high returns as it is not their core business operations..

Without knowing for sure, I'd say a lot of these reason stand up in the Tigers making the decision.

This type of business does align with our core business, and even if we don't make a huge amount of money out of it, it is a revenue stream outside of our current business model and gives us a geographical presence away from our heartland.

The real question for those concerned is what our exposure in this will be. But I think the club will have done its sums.

Aligned Leisure expands into Mildura

Aligned Leisure, a fully owned subsidiary of the Richmond Football Club, has won its fourth tender and will expand its health, fitness and leisure business into the north-west Victorian city of Mildura.

Mildura Rural City Council today announced Aligned Leisure will commence management of eight leisure facilities in Mildura from November 1, 2018.

Aligned Leisure will manage the following facilities in the Mildura region: Colignan Swimming Pool, Irymple Swimming Pool, Merbein Swimming Pool, Mildura Waves Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Murrayville Swimming Pool, Ouyen Swimming Pool, Red Cliffs Swimming Pool, Underbool Swimming Pool.

Aligned Leisure currently manages 13 leisure facilities across Cardinia and Nillumbik Shires and the Cities of Albury and Wodonga.

Former international basketballer and three-time Olympic silver medallist, Lauren Jackson, has joined the Richmond Institute of Sports Leadership as the club looks to expand into the Albury-Wodonga region next year.

The football club, which owns subsidiary business Aligned Leisure, offer a duel Diploma of Sport Development and Leadership Management in conjunction with the Swinburne University of Technology.

Aligned Leisure, a fully owned subsidiary of the Richmond Football Club, is partnering with A.G. Coombs to offer whole-of-facility management of community sports and leisure centres around Victoria.

Richmond FC aims to maximise the community benefit of these valuable assets by aligning them with the sporting programs and services offered by the club, including its award-winning Tiger PAW program that educates primary school-aged children about physical activity, mental health, diversity and nutrition.

Through Aligned Leisure, the Club hopes to transform its business plan and diversify its revenue streams to better benefit members, supporters and the wider community.

Since launching in 2016, Aligned Leisure has won contracts to manage numerous local government-owned sports and leisure facilities in suburban Melbourne, as well as four facilities in Albury-Wodonga.

Its presence on the border aligns with the Richmond Football Club’s academy zone, allowing it to better connect with the local community of the region.

“As well as the high quality, consistent delivery of service we have come to expect from A.G. Coombs, the partnership has provided us with a clear point of difference when presenting our model to clients,” Chief Executive Officer Aligned Leisure, Shane Dunne said.

“Our partnership with A.G. Coombs has been instrumental in the success of Aligned Leisure to date.”

As part of this model, A.G. Coombs is conducting asset audits at all facilities under Aligned Leisure’s management.

Considered a “game changer” in this sector, this asset collection allows for data-driven analytics to be used in much the same way as they are in the commercial sector, providing both Aligned Leisure and their clients with a clearer picture as to the life cycle of the equipment serving their facilities.
