VFL Round 1, 2016

Williamstown vs Richmond

2:00 PM

Sunday, 10 April @ Burbank Oval, Williamstown.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tigers' VFL and development coach Craig McRae said his group was ready for the challenge of traveling to the Seagulls’ fortress Burbank Oval.

“It’s always good to start the season… five odd months and four practice games, we’re ready to go,” McRae said.

“We’ve learnt some good lessons along the way and we’re looking forward to the challenge. We’re just trying to get the ‘Richmond Way’, for everyone to come and watch… the VFL side play and see our style.

“It’s been difficult at times to see that and we’ve had a couple of hiccups along the way, or speed bumps as I like to call them. We’re looking to improve every week and learn the lessons when we can.”

Former Greater Western Sydney and Western Bulldogs defender Sam Darley was appointed captain in his debut season at the Club.

The leadership group also includes former Port Melbourne defender Tom Langford, ex-Melbourne rookie Tom Couch and returning Tiger Ryan Gale.

While the squad has picked up plenty of experience, McRae said a number of younger AFL-listed players had also been impressive over the pre-season.

“Oleg Markov, he’s an exciting player – he’s a talented, athletic player,” he said.

“Mabior Chol, we saw a bit of him in the NAB Challenge.

“Daniel Rioli if he plays down at this level, I don’t know if we’ll see him much, but he’ll tear it up...”

McRae hoped the VFL side would build on last year’s finish of 13th.

“I’m just looking for constant improvement. We need to be better,” he said.

Willy by 20 goals (the team that is, not the OER poster....he'd probably only beat our VFL side by about 12 goals....)

Would that be the old, "worst 30 seconds of footy ever played" or the new and improved, "worst 4 minutes of footy ever played"?
Maybe looking to improve that to a solid ten minutes if all goes to plan.   :banghead
Either way it has the footy world rolling in laughter at the AFL joke of the competition.

Richmond FC, ruining football careers since 1983.   :clapping

The pessimists would of sacked their coach by quarter time - captain Dooks dumped and replaced  at half time  - and would be in full tanking mode by the end of the third quarter.

It would never come to that. Your boys would lay down on the field for a communal hug from the first bounce, as goal after goal sailed over your defenders heads. A 200 point drubbing and you'd be clapping yourselves off thinking a job well done.

Willy home game means RFC members can get in at discounted  price

We only get in home games for free

No special rooms for the four legged kids but they are certainly welcome at VFL games except at Port Melb games  ;D

Bit hard to kick goals when you're too busy punching on with your own players trying to blame each other for not kicking it to you

Nah, the Pessimist team would forfeit the game, throw their hands in the air saying, "Screw you guys, I'm going home!"   :-\
The Optimists would accept the win, knowing it was inevitable anyway.  After a few Gatorade showers to 'blood' their newbies they will sing a few verses of their theme song -
"For we're the Optimists, from OER we are the Optimists!
In any forum you will see us with a grin, stick our noses in.
When we're in pose, we'll never close, our glasses coloured rose!
For we're the Optimists, we never stop until all the trolls go home.
But now its getting cold, we're all bloody old.
But we're the Opti-M-I-S-T's!  We're the Op-ti-mists!"      ;D

Catchy tune eh?    :whistle
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!  Loud, proud & dangerous!
