Reckon they've made the right call but....
« on: April 10, 2016, 10:40:11 AM »
If they've decided to blood new players and regenerate the senior player list, then I think they have made the right call.
This is what Dimma mentioned yesterday and it makes some sense.
Chaplain, Morris, Hampson, Batchelor, Conca, Griffiths, Hunt & Maric all need to be delisted/retired/put down
B Ellis, Vickery, Grigg, Houli should be moved on ideally through trading (even if contracted).
There's another 4 or 5 fringe players who have 19 games to prove themselves.

That's on field.

If we're honest - we need to go through the same regeneration off field and review:-
*Recruiting key list needs, Treloar, Myers, Bennell (maybe), Parker etc
* identifying obvious list deficiencies - ruck and pace. I am stunned at the ruckman we have allowed to go to other club
* player development - this has been okay but we lack collective composure under pressure from our leadership group. I know they've tried some things but it hasn't worked well enough
* gameplan - another poster covered this so I won't detail the issue only to say it seems like we've not adapted at all to a faster style of play. Ironically I remember Lids talking about "fast footy" before the 2015 season. I reckon our game plan would've won us the flag in 2012-2014 with the right talent
* making money - a big tick but a one dimensional one and now that is at serious risk because of points 1,2&3

I don't think we should get rid of everyone but if we're going to "take full responsibility" then let's get Hartley, FJ, Richardson, Gale, Hardwick and co accountable for the general lack of progress since 2013.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Astbury would be the very first player l would have traded. l would have kept Dea. Even if Astbury had a 20 metre rope he would not have been able to lasso his wandering opponent.  :help

So basically lets do what most on here said after we were embarrassed after our first EF loss.

It was this fool who brought Hunt, Knights, Hampson, Grigg to this club on good money, not to mention the extending of contracts like Conca and The Big Fag Griffiths, amongst others.

It was Gale and Peggy Sue who gave this dud an extension.

The list is stuffed and now he wants to re-generate it?

Dimwit, Hackley and Jackskn need to be sacked immediately and Gale on notice for that stupid contract extension decision

Wallace and Frawley did the same thing as this dud. Did we reward those with the same luxuries of 7 plus years

Yep. No leadership qualities nor is he able to follow
A real example of dimmers 6 years as coach and what he does to players.
Refuses to let them bring waht they have to the game style and forces them to do as he thinks is best, which is always a poorly thought out mathematical equation.

He says this after round three ^^
But was saying this on the eve of round one

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.

stuffen sack the whole lot of the idiots.
If it was a real business that relied on quality product instead of the passion and emotion of a brainwashed generation, they'd have folded just after Fitzroy n

they tried to trade him last year and he (Astbury) said no. So he had to stay

We are in the middle of a list rebuild and it wasn't conveyed as such by the club. IMHO it is the right move but it should have been articulated better by those in power.

Or so it now seems.......

Maybe I am just being too nice....... :banghead :banghead

How can they articulate it better when the coach says this.

Good points.

Should have traded Astbury to Brisbane for ANYTHING really. Then pick up a new KPD in the draft and start fresh - such as Kieran Collins instead of using the pick on Yarran.

I think Dea is looking quite settled in Essendon's backline.

Said it already this year - should have kept him.

Astbury was contracted so to be traded he had to agree to a trade he DIDN'T

Dea was out of contract and they needed to free up space for the draft so he got flicked. Other clubs also knew he was likely to flicked

Also, don't lose sight of the fact that at draft time (both national & PSD) not one club picked up Dea...only reason he's playing is because the Bombers decided to go with big bodied experienced players as top ups

Yep he's going well and good luck to him but let's not forget no other club wanted him after he was delisted
