ok so seems we're going hard at Prestia - what are people prepared to give up for him?

Would be happy to see the following players thrown up plus a second rounder on traded from another club for both Pres and Hurley:

B Ellis
Batchelor
Morris
Houli
Grigg
If the money we supposedly have offered Hurley is even remotely close then we should be getting him as a DFA.
He's only worth that kind of coin if he's coming for free, if we had to trade for him then our offer would have to be considerably lower.

Of the players above whether people rate him or not B Ellis is the only player there that can return a 1st round pick and if we could get one you would have to consider it.

Whats he worth?
Prestia pre 2016 probably worth mid 1st round I would have thought, on his form of late I would say its dropped to late 1st/ very early 2nd round pick.
why should what you have to give up to get him, affect what you pay a player?

One you give up money, the other you give up players/picks.

The two things are irrelevant to each other?

What? Who said anything about money?

What? Who said anything about money?
Was replying to WAT's comments of packaging a player and 2nd rounder for the meatball and Hurley.
No way in the world we would offer that kind of coin for Hurley unless he is willing to walk away from the druggo's as a DFA.
Hurley should cost nothing but salary cap space .

The Hurley scenario involves a player that can walk to what ever club he wants with out having to be traded,I thought that was obvious.

The possibility of physical and mental collapse is now very real. No sympathy for the Devil, keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

how does that have any bearing on what salary you play the player?

I dont think it is so obvious as to why you pay him less if you had to trade for him? how does that change the players worth?

Has to do with free agency bidding wars. For a loose example, Vickery to us is worth what, 400k? So if Team X wanted to trade for him they'd give us pick 20 and pay him his worth ~400k. If they wanted him as a free agent however, they would have to offer him over that amount. If they wanted him for 400k we'd just match the offer. If they offered him 600k then we wouldn't bother matching it and he'd walk to them but on an inflated contract.

Prices are all hypothetical of course and knowing us, we'd match anything for that spud

lol,
when you put it way it becomes apparent that you will nearly always be paying overs for any half decent RFA
