Here's the SEN article about Prestia:

SUNS AND LIONS AWARE OF RICHMOND STAR’S APPARENT INTEREST IN QUEENSLAND RETURN

Andrew Slevison
SEN
23 August 2023

Richmond midfielder Dion Prestia is reported to have “some interest” in returning to Queensland.

According to SEN’s Sam Edmund, the 30-year-old triple premiership player is believed to have spoken about his desire to finish his career up north.

Prestia, of course, left Gold Coast to join the Tigers in 2016. The news comes after three-time flag winning coach Damien Hardwick took the job at the Suns which has also linked Dustin Martin to the club.

It is understood that the Brisbane Lions are also aware of Prestia’s apparent inclination.

“There’s a lot of speculation about whether Dustin Martin would or even could join his former coach Damien Hardwick up at the Gold Coast Suns,” Edmund said on SEN Breakfast.

“But there’s also been quite a few whispers about another Tiger, maybe, being keen to move back to the Sunshine State.

“That’s Dion Prestia who left the Suns for Richmond back in 2016.

“My understanding is Prestia has privately discussed the prospect of finishing out his career up north. That feeling is something both Queensland clubs have also heard and are aware of.”

Edmund has been in touch with Prestia’s management team who seemingly poured cold water on the suggestions.

But there is a wrinkle in that Kapital Sports look after Gold Coast’s academy young guns - Jed Walter, Ethan Read and Jake Rogers - who all be drafted by the Suns this year.

That makes it even trickier if Prestia, who is contracted for 2024, did seriously want to make a shift late in his career.

“I contacted Prestia’s management yesterday. They say for their part they’re unaware of any serious desire to change clubs,” he added.

“Prestia is contracted for one more year at Richmond.

“His management company, Kapital Sports, also happen to represent the three Suns academy kids in Jed Walter, Ethan Read and Jake Rogers, who are all going to be taken at the pointy end of the draft, and therefore will require significant draft pick capital from the Suns to match those rival bids.

“So bringing in established big names like Dion Prestia and the like from rival clubs for the Gold Coast Suns is all very difficult and unlikely, even they’re even interested in going down that path. They’re going to trade their first pick though, we know that. They don’t want that to be absorbed in the academy pick up.

“But the Suns can also trade future picks and players if they are of that mind. As I said, unlikely, and cap space might also be a problem.”

Edmund is unaware why Prestia would want to return to Queensland, but does insist there is some interest.

“I don’t know the motivation for the interest, who knows what else is going on there,” Edmund said further.

“All I can tell you is that he has told people privately that he’s got some interest.

“Is that tongue-in-cheek like his management company suggests? Is it legitimate? Is it just a pipe dream that will never happen?

“But it’s certainly been doing the rounds up there (in Queensland) for a while.”

The 2019 Jack Dyer Medallist has played 20 games this season, averaging close to 22 disposals and four clearances.

Lets be realistic here. He's 30+ and injury prone.

We'd be lucky to get a second rounder.

He’d 100% get a first rounder. He’s under contract that they’d need to pay overs but we might throw in some late rounders to give them draft points to get their academy picks
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Granted my age limits me to the mid 90s onwards, but he’s gotta be up there with one of the greatest trades in the clubs history? 3 x Premiership player, 1 x BnF (in a premiership year), Norm Smith votes in 2 of the 3 grand finals. In my eyes, when fit was one of the best mids in the comp (other than maybe this year) and I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves outside of our club.

In saying all of that, if he actually does want to leave, then this would be one that would benefit both parties. As people above have mentioned, he’s getting on in age, is quite injury prone and his game winning performances are much less frequent. If we can grab gold coasts first rounder which they don’t want anyway as they’ll be taking 2 top 10 players out of their academy anyway (probably giving them a second rounder or something like that back), shed his salary even if we have to pay a bit of it (it’s only 1 more season), then I’d take that as a win for us.

In saying all that, if this is all media BS then would love to see him see out his career in the y&b.

Seems like he is being rested so as not to risk his trade value.  Club has obviously made the decision to keep Dusty and trade Dion to free up some salary cap room.

Wonder what pick we'll get for Dusty next year as a free agent.  Probably end of 2nd round knowing the AFL for the greatest finals player in the history of the game.

“NO INTENTION OF LEAVING”: TIGERS INTERIM COACH MCQUALTER TALKS DOWN PRESTIA TRADE REPORTS

Paddy Sinnott
SEN
27 August 2023

Richmond interim coach Andrew McQualter has shut down reports that midfielder Dion Prestia is seeking a trade back to Queensland.

SEN’s Sam Edmund recently reported that Prestia was open to returning to Queensland, with his former club Gold Coast and Brisbane both aware of the possibility.

Rumours intensified when Prestia was managed for Richmond’s final match of the season against Port Adelaide, however McQualter cited a knee concern as the reason, not trade talk.

“Dion’s been managing a knee for a few weeks now and it just blew up a little bit after last week’s game,” he told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“The reality is he could’ve played if it was a Grand Final, but we just thought that it was not worth taking the risk with Dion if he wasn’t going to be fully fit.

“We were really keen to bring a fit and hungry side over here, so that’s what we’ve done.

“I’m not sure where that report came from about Dion or who reported it, but Dion’s a contracted player with us and he has no intention of leaving.”

Tigers mid to miss match sim after hamstring setback

Dion Prestia will train away from the main group after suffering a minor hamstring injury

afl.com.au
2 February 2024

RICHMOND midfielder Dion Prestia will miss the club's match sim against Melbourne on February 18 after suffering a minor hamstring injury.

However, the club is hopeful the 31-year-old will be available for the following week's AFL Community Series hitout against Collingwood.

Prestia, who has a history of soft-tissue injuries, left the track early on Wednesday night during the Tigers' intraclub match simulation.

Physical performance manager Luke Meehan said the injury was minor and would only restrict Prestia from training fully for the short term.

"Dion unfortunately had some hamstring awareness early in Wednesday's match simulation, which, following scans, we have decided will require a short rehabilitation period," he said.

"We anticipate he will be back training fully in a couple of weeks."
