One thing that is pretty clear, we need more picks.
Lennon, Conca, BEllis, Griff, Edwards, Vickery, Grigg, Houli should all be offered up regardless of their contract status.
I know they have to agree to be traded but surely if a club wants to trade you, you cannot hang around. The club just needs to strong and potentially say you won't get much opportunity here if you don't go. Time for making friends needs to be over.

Balme hasn't got any connection to any players as yet, let him be the one to make the tough calls.
You can't offer up players after they've been extended bt.

Where does it say that?
I've heard differently

So if you extend a contract, you cannot trade them? Ever?
Even if both parties agree to the trade? I find that hard to believe?

Twelve months.
Why would a player agree to a trade if he has just signed a contract extending his playing career? It can happen if both parties agree but that is unlikely.

It can happen, things change, teams change, players change.
Gibbs signed a long term contract but now potentially wants to go home. It can happen.
If we went and got Darling, and thought Griff was a waste, then you would trade him if someone wanted him bad enough.
So are you saying its in the AFL rules/contract or is it just unlikely in your opinion?

The rules don't allow you to trade a player you've just signed up unless they want to go too. The circumstances which would make this likely are also rare. Maybe if the player wasn't getting senior playing time (e.g. Longer) they could be tempted to agree to tear up the contract and ask for a trade.

Presuming we trade for top 40 picks, I hope Pepper-Powell's still there at our second, like the look of him last year too when he played in the champs as an under ager -  this year's Dunkley.... :shh

Other's I'd be happy with at our second pick are Atley, Scharenberg, Paholke & Hayward....

Poholke's brother is a pretty handy forward in the local leagues - offered a lot of money to coach too

That's the same with all trades

True, but the club isn't allow to shop them around if they've just extended.

Exactly.

The Doc is making no sense.  :lol

"A player cannot be traded inside of 12 months" but they can if they agree. ???

Come on Doc!

Now you are getting worse!
How would anyone know if the Tigers said to WCE, "do you want Griff?"

Doc is right, rarely if ever do you see a player sign and then that same year get traded. The following year sure, but that year I can't recall it happeneing and there is a rule stopping it unless both parties get exemption from the AFL. If we've signed someone we won't be trading them this year, we may not like it but that's what happens

That's a big difference from saying it cannot happen due to an AFL rule.
Cameron McCarthy would have done it last year if GWS were willing. Things change in people's life and things change in footy clubs.
Let's be honest, contracts in the AFL aren't worth the paper they are written on.
Billy Longer is another that will most likely move this trade period after signing a new contract only a couple of months ago.

Exactly, and the rule around it (both players agreeing) is the exact same for all players whether signed on 12+ months prior or out of contract

Would love to get a late first for lids to trade to to GC.

Keep current pucks and trade out a few players and get ourselves some more picks in 20s and 30s

Yep, maybe Lennon, Edwards out for late first rounders/early second rounders and Conca for Nankervis is the rumour? Then just FO Yarran and free up the list spot and I'll be pretty happy with our return. Of couirse we then have to go the draft and wtf knows what we'll do there
