Unless we draft a ready made ruck or trade for one I like this move.

Would play him as number 1 ruck any day of the week.

Richmond's General Manager - Football Talent, Dan Richardson said Maric has plenty to offer on and off the field.

"We've been in discussions with Ivan for a number of weeks, and we're really pleased he's staying with us in 2017," Richardson said.

"Ivan is a fierce competitor and gives his all in every training session and game he plays, and his teammates thrive off that.

"He's also a great leader and positive role model, not just for his teammates, but everyone at the Club, and we look forward to seeing more of that in 2017."

Maric said he took the necessary time to decide his playing future.

"After a personally testing year, I took time to consider my options, but ultimately the friendships and connections I have with my teammates make Richmond my home, and where I belong," Maric said.

"I believe I am capable of playing good football at AFL level, and will continue to show guidance and leadership on and off the field."

obviously they think we needed his leadership.

So do you support his contract extension?

Have no issue with it myself

It is about leadership and not just leadership on the field. Has a lot to do with what he does off the field.

IMESHO he is still one of our best if not best leader.

And yep perhaps that says alot about the club

Agree he is a proven leader. Agree the decision to resign may have something to do with the lack of leadership at the club.

As I asked ND - why does that require him still being on the senior list? Why not VFL list with a coaching role? And if that was our initial offer, then surely we didn't give in to his demands to remain on the AFL list just keep him as an "onfield coach"?

The initial offer is what he's agreed to, don't know you think it wasn't?

He was only ever offered a 1 year deal on our AFL list. With the plan to have more involvement in mentoring / development than he does now.

Was just speculating a scenario... don't know what the initial offer was..... you still haven't answered my question regarding why he needs to remain on the senior list taking up a spot to be involved in mentoring/development...why can't he still do that and just be on the VFL list -  like McQualter was when he first arrived?

Pertinent point that is unlikely to be answered

Don't agree with the mentoring thing. Who exactly is he going to mentor? We have 2 x 2m players in Vickery and McBean out the door.
The reason he got the contract is because we have no other talls.

Or we could use Maric's spot on a Nankervis , good cheap state leaguers like Darcy Cameron, Tom Goodwin...fast track Chol & Soldo if we have too...draft the Fijian kid from our development zone, .all would seriously probably offer more than a bloke who is now slow as a wet weekend & can't jump off the ground anymore...

I really think they should have waited to see if they could bring in another ruckman first but clearly Maric brings a lot to the club that we can't see on the AFL field.

Apparently his presence was a huge contributing factor to the VFL team's resurgence so obviously they think he's a valuable asset.

And with no backup ruckman on the list I'm happy to have him even though he's basically cooked. Still need to get a ruck or two though.

How much say does Dimma have in re-signing players?

I don't think he is geetting much say actually, as mentioned by a guy at another board.

- Hardwick wanted lade to stay, his gone
- Hardwick wanted chappy to stay, his gone (I reckon the club encouraged him to take the Dees job)

also Balme said Dimma wasn't making all the decisions regarding coaching, I would say the same thing regarding list management as well... I could be wrong, but thats how it seems.
