This game is turning farcical.

Fair enough we need to get rid of the bad stuff like Nanks stupid action and what that Geebung sniper did to Meatball last year.

But incidental contact has alway been part of the game that’s why the suspension for Mansell was ridiculous. How many would Dangerfield get now with his hit on Vlaustin if it were to happen again?

What about the knee to the head in a marking contest?

Get the players to sign a waver and let’s get on with playing footy.
The club that keeps giving.

"Toby put his hand up pretty much straight away and acknowledged that he got it wrong," McQualter said.

"Rather than acknowledging the (playing) group, he certainly is aware that he was disappointed with his action (but we) move forward.

"I'm disappointed that Toby is going to miss three weeks of football - he's a great player for us - but Toby goes after the ball and is one of our best contested-ball players.

"Unfortunately he got it wrong in that circumstance."

Nank was interviewed during the game tonight and said he can't put a timeframe on it but he has his fingers crossed to play in Round "Zero".

Appreciate Nank for what he has done and will keep doing.

But decision to be captain continues to frustrate me. How many games will he have missed as captain. Same with Grimes. An injured or suspended captain, is weakened compared to one that isn't.

Should have been any number of Baker, Broad, Vlastuin or even Dusty.

Turned back the clock but he had a couple of games like this last year too and will probably have a couple more again this year....at his best he can still drag the side with him but they're getting fewer and farther between and against the top rucks in the game he looks like a bush footballer......am looking forward to him going up against Slomo next week though...one of the few ruckman  he could probably still beat in a sprint.... :shh

Agreed Willy. He should’ve kick that goal, t’was a soda.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

‘Nank’ stands tall for Tigers

Richmond coach Adem Yze has paid tribute to club captain and inspirational triple premiership ruckman, Toby Nankervis, who returned to the line-up for the Round 1 match against Carlton at the MCG last night after battling with a foot injury during the pre-season.

Nankervis was excellent first-up in season 2024 with 19 disposals, 12 contested possessions, three marks, a game-high eight clearances, six rebound-50s, five score involvements, a game-high eight tackles and 21 hit-outs.

“He’s an amazing leader of our footy club,” Yze said in his post-match press conference.

“He’s in contest and he’s fighting when we send it down the line.

“Not only that, we were up against a team that likes to go down the line and take contested marks, and he was in a heap of those contests.

“His ruck craft, he’s been working really hard on it.

“The guys love having him in there.

“There’s no secret having our captain back was a big bonus for us."

The Richmond captain’s hit-outs to advantage was up there with the best in Round 1, with 47.6 per cent of his hit-outs finding his teammates at stoppages.
