Richmond partner with world leading sports brand PUMA

Richmond is excited to announce a new partnership with world-class sports brand PUMA, for at least the next five years.

PUMA will be the Club’s new apparel partner from 2017, supplying the team’s playing and performance apparel, as well as the Club’s retail apparel range.

One of the world’s leading sports brands, designing, developing, selling and marketing apparel, footwear and accessories, PUMA partners with some of the world’s best sports teams and organisations including Arsenal Football Club, Borussia Dortmund and the Italian Football Association (FIGC).

Richmond had agreed to partner with the global sports brand, initially to start in 2018, but has worked with PUMA to commence the partnership immediately.

"We are proud to partner a world-class brand in PUMA that will now provide all the Club's on and off-field apparel from the 2017 season," Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said.

"For a number of reasons we had started to explore apparel partnership options. We had been in discussions with PUMA for some time and given their reputation for quality service, and products, it was clear they are our preferred partner moving forward.

"We had agreed earlier this year to commence our partnership with PUMA in 2018, however, given the issues with our contracted supplier, PUMA have been able to step in immediately which is fantastic.

"While the situation with our current supplier is disappointing, the Club has been proactively considering its options and is subsequently very well placed to deal with it.

"We now look forward to a long and successful relationship with PUMA. They partner some of the biggest sporting brands in the world and we are pleased they saw fit to partner with Richmond."

Paul Gautier, General Manager PUMA Oceania is excited to develop the brand’s journey in AFL with Richmond.

“PUMA’s brand mission is to be the fastest sports brand in the world. Our investment in AFL is critical in delivering our goals in sports,” Gautier said.

“With PUMA’s rich heritage in sport since 1948 and Richmond as one of the big, traditional AFL clubs in the competition, we feel that our partnership is a perfect fit.

“Timing is everything. The PUMA journey back to its rightful position in the market is well and truly on track and we look forward to taking the next steps on that journey with Richmond.”

Richmond’s new PUMA range will be available to purchase before the start of the 2017 home-and-away season

'Charcoal and mustard' to 'yellow and black': Tigers' jumper hope

RICHMOND is hopeful its new apparel sponsor will be able to produce a jumper closer to its traditional colours after criticism it had become "charcoal and mustard" under manufacturer BLK.

The Tigers on Thursday announced a new partnership with Puma for the next five years, bringing the deal forward 12 months after BLK was placed under external administration.

The colour of Richmond's jumper has become a board election issue, with aspirants Simon Wallace and Peter Casey promising to get the guernsey right.

The Tigers have also been working behind the scenes for at least six months to make sure their new apparel range would be a true reflection of their 'yellow and black' tradition.

"Our jumper is who we are … yellow and black are not just our colours, they are the best line in the best (club) song," Wallace wrote in his campaign prospectus.

"It should be yellow and black, not the charcoal and mustard that it now is."

Richmond had agreed to partner with Puma in a deal that was set to start in 2018, but it has worked to launch the partnership immediately.

BLK was this month placed under external administration, affecting six AFL clubs.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said the Tigers had explored a new apparel partner for "a number of reasons".

"We had been in discussions with Puma for some time and given their reputation for quality service, and products, it was clear they are our preferred partner," he said.

"Given the issues with our contracted supplier, Puma have been able to step in immediately which is fantastic.

"While the situation with our current supplier is disappointing, the club has been proactively considering its options and is subsequently very well placed to deal with it."

Richmond is expected to launch its new apparel range in February.

We should change the name to "VB Richmund" and go all out and get Klopp to take over from Hardwick when he gets the sack or resigns, whichever comes first
