i heard today was a closed session, does this  mean this game is our "crunch" game as terry rarely has closed training sessions??

Wallace has said on several occasions and did so again last night on WLF that he wouldn't have closed training sessions at anytime

That hunch of yours was on the ball X. A secret training session away from Punt Road to work on wet weather tactics then a war-room meeting back at Punt Road  :thumbsup

Only caught a glimpse of training as they finished after only 30 minutes but I was told Meyer trained so he's over the flu and the big fella was the last to go off the ground due to all the autograph hunters.

I only saw the last hour but training went for over 2 hours today 11am-1.10pm at Punt Road. As mentioned in the other thread the crutches duo Newy and Harts were there doing handballs for a shortwhile. Polo, Tuck and Jacko (hammy) were at the ground and in their training gear but didn't participate while I was there and stayed mostly in the rooms. No sign of Gas, Krak or Moore nor the injured ones like Cogs,  Knobel, Thursty and Casserly.

The remaining 30 rotated in 6-vs-6 throw-in and ball-up drills where each team had to win the ball then work it to their forwards to score. Meyer was up one end and Schulz the other from memory. Browny appeared the best at winning heaps of the ball from the taps when he was involved while JON got alot of encouragment from the coaches especially when he left everyone for dead and kicked a long goal on the run. Blingers didn't do much but his smother and intercept of Roach's kick then sprint and long goal on the run was great to watch. Richo and Rodan also got praise for their clean passes. The main critical comments from the coaches was for the guys to work just as hard back without the footy as when they had it and just not walk back.

The squad then had a quarter-long scratch match.

Teams:

Yellows:               Blacks:
Lids                    Chaffey
Raines                Browny
Simmo                Staff
Roach                 Limbach
Joel                     Pettifer
Richo                  Paddy
Rodan                  Johnson
Meyer                 Hall
Schulz                Foley
Graham               Patto
JON                     Tivs
White                  Hughes
McGuane            Kellaway
Blingers              Howat
Humm                Hyde

Scores:
Yellows    2.1-13    - Goals: JON, Richo; Behinds: Schulz.
Blacks     1.5-11    - Goal: Foley;  Behinds:  Browny, Foley, Petts, Hyde, Patto.  From memory Paddy also had a set shot marked on the goal line. Most of the misses were from set shots  :scream.

Blacks in general play looked to have more of the footy but the Yellows made the most of their scoring opportunities.

Some Match-ups:

F Blacks:   Petts             Browny            Meyer
B Yellows:  Raines           JON                 Joel

C Blacks:   Hughes         Patto          Hyde          Foley         Howat       Chubba
C Yellows:  McGuane     Graham      White         Blingers     Rodan       Lids

B Blacks:     Paddy         Richo
F Yellows:    Schulz       Limbach/Hall?

Simmo and Staff only played for a short while.

The scratch-match was not full-on but a decent one for training.
Sugar (best) and Foley got a number of clearances.
Browny and JON had a great duel. Browny had slightly the better closer to the Blacks goal but JON made an effort to push up the ground which resulted in his goal. Browny looked free in his movements so that was a good sign.
Richo's ball-handling appeared better today. Schulz was solid.
Lids got a fair bit of the ball out wide but on occassions tried to feign and dodge around Chubba and although he never got caught and got free, two of his passes where chopped off by Black defenders.
Rodan, White and Meyer did some nice things. Terry gave Danny some praise as they walked into the rooms after training.

They finished with some goalkicking practice. Lids and Browny practising their bananas and Daicos-esque dribbling goals.

I only caught the last 20-30 mins of training which was mainly warming down (push-ups) with some guys doing goalkicking - Patto, Krak, Rodan, Tambo, Limbach, Petts, Foley, Casserly, Polo, Tuck, White and Graham. Sarge brought out a "man on the mark' prop and practiced passing to a trainer just over the raised arms of the prop. Rainesy, Rodan and Tivs joined in. Tivs aimed for the prop and hit it in the chest. It'd be nice if his short passes were that accurate during a game  ;).

As training started at 11am it would have gone for just under 2 hours although Foley was still practising inside 50 kicks and chatting with Wheadon after everyone else had gone inside.

With all our injuries it was a small squad at training. Almost easier to name who was there instead of who wasn't  :-\. Present were Lids, Rainesy, Simmo, Chaffey, Roach, Joel, Richo, Knobel, Polo, Pettifer, Rodan, Limbach, Hall, Tuck, Schulz, Patto, Krak, Tambo, Hyde, Tivs, Hughes, White, Casserly, Moore, Foley, Humm, Howat and Graham. I saw Paddy Bowden come out of the rooms at the end to sign an autograph. He had only one upper leg warmer on (his right leg). Hopefully not a sign of a hammy  ???.

As for the goalkicking - Patto is so far ahead of everyone else in terms of his professionalism and nailing his set shots at training IMO. The time is paying off too as he practiced for all the time I was there and missed once only narrowly. Krak, Limbach, Petts, Tambo and Rodan were also doing systematically today although I'd like someone or a prop to act as a man on the mark when they take their set shots. Krak was trying different angles at a time but like on Saturday if he mistimes his kick in any way they struggle to make the distance from 35-40m out.

At the end of training David King got Patto, Krak, Rodan, Limbach, Casserly, Polo and Graham to have a shot from 40m out just inside the boundary with the closest to the centre of the goals the winner. Chocco Royal was on the mark. Polo went first with a round the body kick and got it through. It wasn't a fluke as he did it again. His straight line running set shot though missed. Patto was second last with a proper set shot and it sailed over Kingy's head. Rodan did the same.

Did all shots make the distance?

Graham had two shots. One went across the face and bounced 10m out while the other went through for a goal which he was quite happy with lol. Everyone else from memory made the distance with their shot.

It was windy  ;) but more right to left. It didn't help Krak when he mistimed his kick  :nope.

Not much to report today other than who was there and who wasn't.

I only saw the last half an hour so unless they left early Tivs and Chubba were absent which might mean both are doubtful to play. No sign of Razor either.

JON came out of the rooms to do laps around the boundary. Although his arm and shoulder were free, he would hold his right arm close to his body so no weight was being beared on the collarbone as he ran. One of the assistants told him to not use the arm as he was running past.

Moore came out of the rooms in his tracksuit for a little while. Poor guy can't escape injury.

Those who completed training were Lids, Raines, Simmo, Chaffey, Roach, Staff, Joel, Richo, Knobel, Polo, Petts, Paddy, Sugar, Rodan, Limbach, Tuck, Schulz, Patto, Krak, Blingers, Hyde, Hughes, White, Casserly, McGuane, Foley, Humm, Howat and Graham.

McGuane did this absolute ripper inside-out torp from the boundary line that split the middle. You had to see it to believe it. David King was so impressed he tried to copy Luke and sprayed it by miles lol.

I made it to the end of training today thanks to morons nicking copper from the overload power lines on the Epping line :P so not much to report in terms of what the squad did today.

All the coaching staff as well as Miller were present at training. It was a HUGE squad with a few unfamiliar faces but most Tigers were there from who I saw. For the OER ladies, yes Richo, Browny and a few others were topless. Browny looks in top shape already. Casserly and Moore are competing for most peroxide in their hair.

I took a couple of photos which I'll put up when I get home tonight but I'll need to blow them to remember what I took. Most are squad photos but I have pics of Tambling, Polo and Tuck as well.
