Not match sim yet. Doing full ground two team contested transition drill. Dusty just outbodied Biggie in the marking contest at chf and in a flash handed off to a runner to set up a goal. But the media are still questioning if Dusty has the will to play  ::).

Forward entry drills at the moment.

Now stoppages into transition. Cumberland back training with the main group.

Sonsie, Graham and Lynch doing some ground ball contested work with the trainers. Plus some kick to kick with Soldo. Now they are doing shuttle runs along the boundary. I still don't know why Sonsie is in rehab but the trainer has told him a couple of times to just take time. Sonatas on the ground earlier doing right leg lifts.

Wasn’t in the injury list released on the clubs website a few days ago. Not surprising though, their injury reporting has been lacklustre all summer.

Full ground kick 6mins
Baker hands into Baker kick 6 mins
Stoppage - D50  & F50 into re-entry 12mins

Grimes not doing the full ground kick drill. Running along the boundary.

Nank, Ryan & Miller doing ruck duels.

Prestia not doing the Baker hands/contested ball drill.  Running g laps instead at a frede decent click.

Speaking of Baker, haven't seen him today  :huh. There's a ring-in running around in a #7 top.

Wow! Thanks for the info, amc11. Hopefully, Bakes will be fine in a couple of weeks in time for round 1.

Tough Tiger in R1 fitness battle after appendix surgery

Liam Baker was one of several Richmond premiership stars to sit out the intraclub match on Saturday

By AAP
18 February 2023

RICHMOND tough nut Liam Baker is in a race to be fit for next month's season-opener against Carlton after having surgery to remove his appendix.

Baker was one of several premiership stars who sat out the Tigers' training session on Saturday, watching from the sidelines at Punt Road Oval.

Tom Lynch (foot), Jack Graham (toe) and Ivan Soldo (back soreness) were all kept out of the action, as was young defender Josh Gibcus (hamstring).

Defender Nathan Broad and small forward Jason Castagna were limited to running drills as they recover from hamstring issues.

Baker is expected to resume light duties next week and will miss Friday's match simulation against North Melbourne.

But the 25-year-old could be ready to take on Melbourne in the Tigers' final practice match on March 4, before the MCG showdown with arch-rivals Carlton on March 16.

"(Baker) woke up feeling pretty sore in the stomach over the weekend and had it investigated and unfortunately he had to have his appendix out," Richmond assistant coach Xavier Clarke told reporters on Saturday.

"But Bakes is pretty tough and he's going to be ready for round one, there's no doubt.

"We've all seen the way he plays. If he had his way, he'd probably be out there training (now).

"But he'll rest up and he'll be fine in the coming weeks."

Lynch won Richmond's best and fairest award last season and topped the club's goalkicking for the second time.

The 30-year-old spearhead is on track to face the Blues in round one but may not be fit to play any practice matches in the build-up.

"He's getting back gradually into training," Clarke said.

"Last week he started drip-feeding into some of our drills and again today.

"He should be fully into training next week, so he'll be available for round one."

We didn't have an intra-club today. So, ignore that bit in the above article.

The first few minutes of training were sloppy but once we got going it was an excellent session. It went for about 2.5 hours. Today seemed focused on the various pieces of our gameplan. We're known for our transitional game so nothing new there, but we did a heap of contested/stoppage work around the ground too.

Dusty is absolutely flying. The only thing that looks like stopping him would be injury (touchwood that doesn't happen). For the full ground contested transition drill, Dusty was playing high forward and virtually every forward entry went through him. He was unstoppable. In one of the inside 50 drills he gave Tarrant a "dont' argue" and swatted Robbie away like he was a little leaguer before nailing the goal with the outside of his right foot.

Speaking of forward of centre, it looks like we'll throw the magnets around rotating a whole bunch of mids in and out of our F50. Obviously, Cotch has been mentioned but even Pickett seemed to spend time in a forward role for the stoppage and transition drill.

Hopper and Taranto are going to make a huge difference to us this year. Liked Hopper's contested ball work today. There's a lot of talk about Dusty and Bolton being able to play both midfield and forward but we should be adding Taranto to that list.

Both Riolis trained well. Daniel's workrate nowdays is impressive. Maurice is going to scare a few opposition defenders and rebounders this year with his chasing and harrassing.

Miller is clear #2 ruck. Hard to see him not in our round 1 team. Most of the ruck contests today in the around the ground stoppage drills were between Nank and Ben.

Of the lesser likes, I thought Dow was pretty good today. His kicking can be hit and miss but today he fairly clean. Highlight was winning a loose hard ball in the F50 before dishing off to Pickett who goaled.

Tylar Young keeps impressing. Seems to read the play well. A couple of good intercepts and spoils.

ps. Dimma was umpiring during a couple of the full ground drills and must have had DeBoy's rule book. Some harsh dubious calls. For example, Bradtke took what looked like a decent well-judged contested mark from behind but Dimma yelled out "push in the back". Probably getting us mentally prepared for the usual crap treatment we cop from the real umps :P.
