Nankervis easily yes based on way praccy game

He plays with aggression, something sadly lacking last season.

Was also happy with Maric's game, nice to have some footy smarts in the middle. Also had some leap back

If they intending to play 2 ruckman, and everyone is fit. Then IMO you play Nankervis and Maric

Now WP, you cannot be serious. Every year you go on about players earning their spot, particularly at this time of the year. Nank has had one practice game and Maric was completely shot last year, the game he came back for was an embarrassment to himself. So how do you pick him over Hampson, really? Be consistent at the very least.

Nank and Hampson yes, provided Hampson can get fit before round one, but Maric, this early, based on......... really?

Turn it up  :facepalm Hampson is an absolute liability and weve been saying it for eons..

Hampson still is, like it or not, don't get all excited after one pre season game...

Nank will obviously take the no.1 mantle IF he progresses well enough and EARNS the spot. Until then its Hampson!

Hampson hasn't progressed well enough in 10 years at senior level to earn a mantle of even being a back up ruckman so what gives him any entitlement to being a number 1 ruckman at any AFL club let alone Richmond.  :huh
Big Ivvy, AA nominated, 3rd B&F - as WP clearly posted, his issue has been one of fitness, not capability. Hampson is the opposite.
Nank is a bloke you just play given his age and obvious development potential.
Hampson is simply a dead weight, the flotsam jetsam in a competition that subsidises mediocrity by having 4 too many clubs in its make up.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Nankervis has mongrel,  Maric has footy smarts.

On Friday evening if Maric didn't jump he easily nullified the Adel ruckman with good body positioning and footy smarts.

Nankervis in one pre season game showed more aggression and imposed more on a contest than Hampson. He crashed packs, he chased, hell he even tackled and took more than one contested mark

There is old saying "built like Tarzan plays like Jane". People whack Griffiths, and in the past Vickery for this. Hampson is the same. He is a reasonable tap ruckman (no where near elite) bur for his size he doesn't impose himself. Yes he was reasonable last season but what other options did we have?

And on that alone I'd have the other 2 if fit ahead of him every time

Teams that have played us in the past relish the chance because we play bruise free footy. Nank the tank changes this with his aggression and competitiveness. Add big bodies like Caddy and Prestia and suddenly the opposition have a contest on their hands when it comes to physicality.

Hampson provides zero mongrel. He may be useful in nullifying the super tall guys from other teams but that's about it.

Will be interesting to see if Hampson plays in the next pre-season game. Lets hope he does, it would be nice to have 3 ruckmen competing for a spot come round one instead of having to play only what we have.

I still don't think Maric should line up though.

Nankervis took more than one contested mark

Took 3 (+1 called push in the back). Twice as many as Hampsons season average that somehow holds him in position for no.1 ruckman :lol.

On another note, it was nice to see some taps go directly to our own players not the opposition.

On another-nother note, I don't think we will be played 2 genuine ruckman this year. Not sure what rule changes would make that seem like a good idea and if I hear the 3rd man up rule then I'll berate you like the idiot you are

If he is aggressive, mobile, takes a mark and can ruck decent he is our number 1.

Have to consider playing him with or without Hampson, but can't afford not to play him.

What if we propped Hampson up with one of these?

He would probably enjoy that.

3. Richmond's ruck dilemma

The Tigers were trounced in the ruck, the Lions dominating the hit-outs 53 to 20. Stefan Martin had 52 hit-outs alone. Toby Nankervis was handy around the ground with 11 disposals, but was often untidy with his disposal. Richmond persisted with using the undersized Shaun Grigg in contests in its forward line (despite the presence of Todd Elton), virtually conceding the hit-out and relying on its players to read Martin's tap. It was used with little success, and the Tigers will be sweating on the fitness of Ben Griffiths after his concussion two weeks ago.

Says how little hit outs matter.  Rucks are bulllocking machines these days that can take a pack mark and impose their bulk.
