Butler's 80m running goal  :thumbsup

VIDEO: http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2017-04-08/round-3-butlers-80m-run

Butler puts on the afterburners

Dan Butler was already a key member of the Tigers' trio of tearaways, along with Daniel Rioli and Jason Castagna, but he provided a none-too-subtle reminder. The 20-year-old from Ballarat gathered the ball on the wing as the first quarter entered time-on, saw an opening and did not hesitate to take it. Butler, playing his third game, charged past a series of Eagles, with Jeremy McGovern – the one tasked with chasing him down – left for dead. Butler's scintillating run pierced an empty attacking 50 and he bounced all the way to the square, thanks in part to a Rioli shepherd, before pumping through his fourth career goal. The Richmond faithful predictably roared in delight. Butler added a mid-air, karate kick goal later in the game.

They may not be getting a heap of ball but I would prefer them any day of the week than some tall goal posts, surely eight posts on the field is enough #RIP Tigertit

Question for OER posters.
Was Rioli's shepherd on Butlers running goal legal?

It was pushing the boundaries of being an infraction and didn't need to be done

Yep. And the umpire knew Butler wouldn't be caught so it was play on. About the only borderline decision they got right all day

I must say i was sweating on that one, the infraction i believe was using hands to shepherd rather than the body bump?

Question for OER posters.
Was Rioli's shepherd on Butlers running goal legal?
It was barely legal
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

If he was cleaner with his disposal in the forward 50 he'd kick 2+ goals a game. Creates lots of opportunities and his energy/ pressure is fantastic. Much prefer his errors forward of centre than down back where they would cost goals.
