Eddie to head Nine
« on: February 07, 2006, 03:18:45 AM »
Well almost certain to according to the Hun - http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,18059920%255E661,00.html

Eddie's been fantastic for the Pies but hopefully for the rest of us we'll now get a Thursday night football show without bias to any one club.

If you like James Brayshaw, the Rumour File has him as the replacement for Eddie on the Footy Show.
If you're like me and can't stand the guy, just replacing one big head for another  :banghead

Yep it sounds like it's between Brayshaw and Lyon. Also heard on 3aw that Sam might be finally leaving as well if Lyon misses out.

Hooray!!!  The sooner the better.  Preferably before Friday night games start up again.

As for the Footy Show - it might finally improve.

Is it possible for Eddie's head to get any bigger?

Well, he already sounds like he is a politician, so if there is a republic, he may just be our next/1st president.....  :nope

3AW Rumour File added Sam Kekovich to the names to head the Footy Show this morning.

I think this is a good move by Eddie, and good for people who don't like him.  Channel Nine is a national institution - well the ABC is, but of the commercial stations, Nine has been the forerunner since television began in this country.  Their dominance has slipped quite a bit since the mass exodus to Seven by former Nine execs, and it's going to be a huge battle for Eddie to maintain or improve Nine's standing. That can only be good for tellie i hope, but it may bring Eddie's head down to normal size if he isn't successful.  I don't want the standard of tellie to drop, but would give anything for this egotistical bore to be brought down a peg or two.

Hurray, no longer have to hear the fake hype on a Friday telecast.

I didn't see Eddie interviewed on ACA (only snippets) but a friend said Eddie looked unsure of himself in places especially when talking about being the boss of Ch 9 but still answerable to the PBL bosses.

The way i see it is,
McGuire is now competing in a field not only majorly foriegn but also against guys who have been around and basically built the television industry in Australia as we klnow it.
One thing to give orders to a flock of seagulls that hang on your every scrap but to make moves, and he will try, against blokes that were doing it when he was still a reporter at 10, is not an enviable task.
Being a seld confessed hands on man he's gonna struggle allocating positions of decision and merit to anyone else other than Eddie.

Wonder how long it will be vefore we hear Eddie using Alan Bond's orevious failure at the same job as an example that it "can happen" :scream

Good luck to him and his egos'  but this job will kill him if he tries to do it all....as he will. :thumbsup

Maybe. The real problem is that the format is exhausted - Sam Newmans sardonic diatribes, Trev's unfunny one-liners, footballers talking in monotone cliches - its just not interesting anymore. In my opinion one of the few things Sydney and the NRL does better than Melbourne.
