No cuts for AFLW.

STATEMENT: AFL reaffirms commitment to AFLW, 2021 season model unveiled

afl.com.au
23 June 2020

THE AFL has informed AFL club presidents and CEOs that the AFL Commission ratified a recommendation by the football operations department for no change to the current AFLW CBA, and that the 2021 season should commence in February, with a nine-week home and away season, before a three-week finals series.

Player payments and the current AFLW football department 'soft cap' would be maintained as agreed previously, with the 2021 season subject only to how the Australian community was dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic at the time early next year.

AFL Commission Chairman Richard Goyder said it was the Commission's view that the AFLW was a significant growth area for the game and should not be subject to any reductions for next season, when considering the competition was not able to be completed this year and the fact that AFLW spending within clubs was much smaller than the current spend on the AFL football programs.

The Commission also hosted a meeting via video with club presidents / chairs and CEOs, where AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan provided an update to the clubs on the game's collective financial situation, when considering the initial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent months, and the next steps for the industry to move through this initial challenging period.

"It is the Commission's view that it is critical at this juncture to provide clarity to the AFLW Clubs and players by demonstrating our ongoing commitment to women's football and the NAB AFLW Competition,' Mr McLachlan said.

Richmond to receive the following:
- Additional draft selection at end of first round (pick 15) that must be on-traded to bring in ready-made talent.
- This pick can be combined with other selections and/or player(s). However, cannot be used in a scenario that brings another selection back to the Club.

1 player isnt going to do anything. Our AFLW recruiting last year was a disgraceful shambles. Just amatuer comedy capers stuff. We are 10 players off being any good.

AFLW Blue Sarah Hosking set to join Tigers

By Daniel Cherny
July 28, 2020

Carlton's AFLW Hosking twins are set to be split with Richmond poised to acquire Sarah Hosking via a trade next month.

Midfielder Sarah, the identical twin of fellow Blue Jess, has been a mainstay of the Blues' women's side since the AFLW competition began in 2017, playing all 30 games for the club.

However her days in navy blue look to be done, with her manager Alex Saundry confirming on Tuesday that Sarah was likely to join Richmond during the AFLW sign and trade period, which begins next month.

The trade is likely to involve the Tigers' end of first-round compensation pick, selection No.15 in the national draft, which is pick No.9 in the Victorian draft.

The move will bolster a Richmond side that went winless during its first season in AFLW, leading to the departure of coach Tom Hunter.

In a strong Carlton side that was still alive when the AFLW season was cancelled because of the coronavirus, Hosking missed the top 10 of the Blues' best and fairest.

She was however a member of the Carlton leadership group this year.

Twin Jess, a minute younger than Sarah, has played 21 games for the club after missing 2017 through injury. The sisters were both drafted from Seaford in 2016.

The Tigers are yet to confirm what their new coaching structure will look like although sacked North Melbourne coach Scott Gowans has been linked to the role.

While the Blues are likely to lose Hosking, they are set to gain ex-Melbourne skipper Elise O'Dea, who is strongly considering a move to Carlton.

A host of other Demons including Maddy Guerin (also Carlton), Harriet Cordner (Richmond or the Western Bulldogs), Aliesha Newman (Collingwood) and Bianca Jakobsson (St Kilda) have also emerged as serious trade options as Melbourne look to improve their draft position this year.

Elsewhere, West Coast are widely tipped to land emerging Irish Bulldog Aisling McCarthy.

The AFL opted against implementing changes to the AFL salary cap or soft cap for next season despite the financial hit of COVID-19.

I really think it is a poor to be planning all this without a coach

My personal view was Hunter shouldn't have been "let go". Just feel he was made the scapegoat for the and very poor season. He wasn't in charge of the list build.

And I know who I'd be targeting and it isn't the former N0rt coach

there is a very successful AFLW coach I'd be sounding out and they currently aren't coaching in the AFLW  :whistle
