Freo defender's clearing kick falls short and Dempsey intercepts 35 out. Kicks in board to Kiely. She misses.

64 - 8

Miller intercepts the kick-in 55 out. And gets 50m (short 50 though). Kicks from 20 out and goals  :gotigers.

Rich  10.10-70
Freo   1.2-8

Only a practice match but good signs across the park.

Who was wearing #23 today? She was excellent in defence and rebounding off HB. Just attacks the footy and has the size and ability to break tackles.

Katelyn Cox was solid in defence as well as the game went along.

Egan is going to be a handy addition to our midfield.

Liked Steph Williams game in the second half. Got more involved and looked more dangerous as a midsized forward as the game went along. Can match it in aerial contests as well as on the ground.

If Meagan Kiely (now in #13) plays like that in the real stuff then she will have significantly improved for her second season.

Of our regulars, a fit Wakefield and McKenzie makes a huge difference to our side. Brennan still to come into the side too of our star players.

Still areas of improvement - midfield/forward connection and goalkicking could be better as we dominated general play - but all up pleasing signs.

AFLW Tigers record pre-season win over Fremantle

By Richmond Media
6 August 2022

Richmond AFLW kicked off it's pre-season campaign in style on Saturday afternoon with a 63-point win over Fremantle at Rushton Park in Mandurah, 10.11 (71) to 1.2 (8 ).

The match simulation was the first of two hit-outs for the Tigers ahead of their season's start against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday, August 28.

Richmond wasted no time getting going on the scoreboard, leading from the clash from start to finish. Veteran forward Courtney Wakefield kicked off proceedings with the opening major and did not slow down from there with a five-goal performance, showcasing her strong contested marking ability.

The Tigers looked lively and jelled well as they put their pre-season work to the test, gaining ascendancy early as they locked the ball inside their forward 50 for the majority of the clash.

Second year Tiger Stella Reid was dangerous up forward with two goals, while Sarah Hosking and Ellie McKenzie were damaging through the midfield.

Senior coach Ryan Ferguson said he was pleased with what the Tigers were able to get out of the match simulation.

"It's affirmation for us to continue building, it was more about our attitude and our intent and our game rather than about the scoreboard and the opposition," Ferguson said.

"Seeing the aspects of our game starting to shine through, ironing out some chinks as the game went on and being able to make some adjustments.

"It was a chance to have a great hit-out and continue to grow from that in the next phase of our pre-season."

Tiger fans got their first look at a number of Richmond's sign and trade period recruits, including Grace Egan, Libby Graham and Steph Williams, as well as draftees Katelyn Cox and Eilish Sheerin.

All looked right at home in the Yellow and Black, drawing praise from senior coach Ryan Ferguson.

"Grace has been brilliant since she's come on board with us, she has a great attitude and she's really building... It was great for her to have a run around against an opposition with her teammates," Ferguson said.

"Eilish really gave us some run and dash off hard-back which was pleasing to see, and Libby was really strong down back and is starting to work in well with her teammates in creating a hopefully hard-to-score-against backline.

"Katelyn's ability to compete and win the ball at ground level and show a bit of class to step through traffic and find a free target... I was really pleased with her output, she's tracking along nicely."

Saturday's clash was an important tune-up ahead of the side's first ever game on the MCG in their official practice game against Hawthorn next Sunday, August 14 from 10.30am, in a Richmond/Hawthorn double-header.

"We're excited to get back to training and work on our game for the weekend to set ourselves up for a fantastic occasion," Ferguson said.

"They'll be ready and raring for that."

AFLW Season Seven Preview: Richmond

Juliette Aubert

What to look forward to:

Hopefully this season Richmond will be able to continue to apply consistent forward pressure and not succumb to so many injuries taking out important players from their positions to fill in the gaps.

During the season, key defender Harriet Cordner went down due to injuring her ACL which dampened Richmond’s back line. However, new recruit Libby Graham will take on the crucial role down back.

Graham is an important addition to the team as she stands at 176cm and is great at coming across and intercepting while holding her own in one-on-one contests.

It will be interesting to see if Richmond’s already strong forward attacking style will develop after it welcomes the explosive forward Stephanie Williams from Geelong.

Biggest unanswered question:

Despite improving on their debut season, Punt Road Oval is still to see many winning feats.

It remains whether Richmond’s injury woes will continue through to this season or if it has recruited well enough to improve on its lack of defence.

With the draftees Eilish Sheerin, Katelyn Cox and Charley Ryan being given a shot at donning the black and yellow – a new refresh should do the Tigers wonders.

Albeit a hard feat of teams are on the horizon, it is still up in the air if the Tigers’ defensive group is up for the test.

It’s a big year for…

Richmond has drafted a multitude of elite players to complement its ground-level, high-scoring, efficient style game. It will be a big year for Stephanie Williams as she makes the move to Richmond from Geelong as she replaces Ingrid Houtsma.

Williams’ athletic traits and ability to break open a game will be the perfect accompaniment to Richmond’s forward line.

Another name to watch out for is Tessa Lavey – the dual sportswoman has shown she can do it all.

The 2021 recruit has proven to be an integral player to the Tigers, averaging 12.3 disposals per game and a career-high of 19 touches.

While the established players like Monique Conti, Sarah Hosking, and Sarah D’Arcy won’t fail to put on a show in season seven.

Round 1 line-up

Ladder range:

Ninth – 12th

Although Richmond has recruited some impressive pickups, it’s hard to believe that it will be able to do much more than it did for the past two seasons.

With the addition of the new expansion sides, Richmond may be able to muster up a few more wins than the last two seasons.

Round 1 line-up

Ladder range:

Seriously????

Umm No Grace Egan but they've named Molan  :banghead give me a break. Egan is a walk up start.

no Bethany Lynch but they've named Macdonald  :banghead

No Brancatisano but they've named Reid

Sorry while I agree with much of the article the above "round 1" team doesn't come to close to our best 22-23
