Richmond didn’t handle the pressureBy SEN
14 August 2017Chief Football Writer of the Herald Sun, Mark Robinson, believes Richmond didn’t handle the pressure in their loss to Geelong on the weekend.
The Tigers lost by 14-points to the Cats, in a game where Geelong was missing linchpins Joel Selwood, Tom Hawkins and Mitch Duncan. Richmond used the footy at just 66 percent efficiency; something Robinson thinks is becoming a constant theme.
“What we saw on Saturday was sloppy ball use,” he said on SEN Afternoons.
“Richmond didn’t handle the pressure. Their ball use in the fourth quarter, and in the last month, has been really sloppy. Most scores come from turnover. On the weekend, Richmond’s turnovers just gifted the Cats so many scores.
“They couldn’t move the ball.”
However, Robinson did acknowledge Damien Hardwick’s men showed good hunger at the coalface, as the Tigers recorded 84 tackles, well above their season average of 68.5.
“Richmond’s pressure was really good, very high,” he said.
“The will was there, but the skill wasn’t. If you bring that skill again, you wont go deep in September.
“Their pressure was really good; they weren’t scared of Geelong or the venue. That was really strong, but the next element is, when we have the ball, what are we going to do with it? It didn’t happen.”
