The one thing I cannot respect and will never respect are the grubby acts in packs, blatant holding-the-man, blocking, and obvious dump-your-opponent-after-disposal which have been coached into them and which they do as a team, game after game.I'm not talking about "unsociable football", which Brisbane and Hawthorn also played in abundance for their three-peats. I can respect niggle and toughness.Put most simply, if for free kicks your blokes are " ... last every year bar one, and I think we were like 15th that year as well " it's because of the way they play.As a Richmond fan, you must know what I mean because it has definitely contributed to your success, and here's why:Richmond 2017-21 do more deliberate illegal acts, especially holding in packs or when an Umpire is unsighted, than any other team I've seen in 50+ years of footy watching.It's most definitely to their benefit.If it's missed, play on, so their advantage from dirty play (classic example, 2017 GF eg Eddie held by both opponent's hands in the goalsquare, second quarter).If it's punished, they benefit from the stoppage and have time to regroup/set up. The free kicks they give away deliberately are opposition momentum-stoppers.It works!If you doubt me, watch this but be warned, you will not like it:--- 0.32, look at Lever being held down in the contest, closely, with Umpires' view obstructed.and--- 3.15, Betts being held in exactly the same way, different player. Most of those incidents can be classified under "the bloke who made the video doesn't know the rules". Claiming Jacobs wasn't deliberate is laughable. Then again it isn't deliberate when their players do it at the Adelaide Oval in the last minute of a game so that might explain why dopey Crows fans sook when they rightfully get pinged outside SA.
