He made some critical errors but I think he will be good for us long term.

I’ve got high expectations for him.

Also did some great things :thumbsup

That intercept where he ran straight off his man and got a turn over in the middle of the ground, then outpaced the Port players running it forward, was fantastic. Made the decision to go and just went for it. Brilliant stuff. Love the risk taking.

He's getting compared to Rance - but I haven't seen a bloke with this much raw athletic potential since the early to mid 90s when a kid called Richardson started playing for us.

I’d see him more as a Kouta type who can roam the ground impacting contests - from ground ball to ruck.
I can’t imagine him ever being a key back but reckon he could be a modern day utility
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Although Balta admitted he’s also not sure which on-field position best suits him, it isn’t something that fazes him.

“I keep getting thrown around, but I see it as an opportunity.

I keep playing wherever he (coach Damien Hardwick) puts me. I keep playing that role and do what I need to do to help out the team.”

“He’s postcode nowhere” . . . That’s how star Richmond defender Nick Vlastuin described his talented, versatile, young teammate Noah Balta following the Tigers’ 22-point victory over Sydney at Marvel Stadium last night.

By the way, Caro on Footy Classified tonight said Balta got dropped after round 1 for breaking team rules.

Interesting observation if that's the case.

Noah Balta is the equal fastest player in the AFL (Herald-Sun)

FASTEST PLAYERS IN THE AFL THIS YEAR

34.9km/h — Gary Rohan (Geel)

34.9km/h — Noah Balta (Rich)

34.5km/h — Dean Kent (StK)

34.2km/h — Lachie Murphy (Adelaide)

34.2km/h — Nathan Wilson (Fremantle)

34.1km/h — Jimmy Webster (St Kilda)

But for Balta, carrying around 100kg on his 195cm frame, it is another reminder why Justin Leppitsch labelled him the most athletically gifted kid he had seen come into football.

Friigin Hardwick make the move on Naughton.  He's too good for Broad.

Would have loved to see him play on Naughton the entire second half.

IMO Balta at this stage gets exposed down back. Unfortunately, poor selection and then senior teammates couldn't do their job which forced him back.

Needed Balta more in the ruck or even ruck rover. Just something different with is athleticism to try and curb the Dogs who murdered us in the middle.

Not sure it was poor selection. Our mids got bashed up again...a major issue this year. Our delivery forward was shocking and didn't give any of them much of a chance to take a mark. The lack of pressure from our small forwards was also poor lead by Castagna who can play seniors for much longer :banghead.

A great opportunity for Balta to go one on one. Note we still would have got smashed :whistle

What a freak so much athleticism can play anywhere did well in the ruck.
