His pace, agility , field kicking, disposal and cleanliness below the knees is such for a big man that he could run through the middle and pinch hit in the ruck...if nothing else his follow up work is always excellent whenever he does ..... has been great down back the last 2-3 weeks because #thingsgobetterwithbalta :shh

Really happy for this guy.

Have always really liked his kicking and underrated speed.

Glad he seems to have settled in a role.

Searching for positives from today. Miller had one of his best games with 8 intercepts while keeping Curnow to just two goals (one of those was in late junk time).

14 disposals (9k, 5h, 5c, 9u, 85.7%)
6 marks
1 tackle
8 intercepts
304m gained
4 score involvements
90% time on ground.

Miller and Blight were great all day. They are not the problem. Our issues today were Broad, Baker, Bolton, Short, Kmac, Graham , Dusty... . Nank was lucky , he had no opponent today.

Really happy for Ben, he's worked so hard and it's paying off

Amazing what can happen when you're settled in one position  :whistle :shh

So true.

I'm thrilled for him.

Always thought he was a keeper.

Can we focus on Balta Miller Gibcus back 3 for the future.

That's elite. Then we can fix the forward issue.

I think Blight may have a say in our back 3 talls

Clearly our best player. A game I’ll be carefully watching on B&F night.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

At this rate there is nothing elite about gibcus and no certainties at all.

Gibcus can't get on the park and may never be fit again.

Balta yes. Miller yes. Blight looks likely. And I still think there's a spot for Young after an ordinary start to '24 - he was solid in '23.

I think we should try Brown forward. Beautiful kick and he showed yesterday that he can take a mark wowee!

His ability to get an injury is right up there with the best

I think there’s only room for 3 of balta, blight, miller, gibcus and young down back. We need one of these guys to just be an intercepting beast like Stewart, leaving 2 kpd to play alongside

Yep. Thing is we seem to have options down back.

It's the forward line we need to worry about. Lefau looks a competent 2nd fiddle and Kosi IMHO can play 3rd tall + ruck relief.

Agreed but I don’t believe Kosi or lefau will be in our next premiership fwd line. In fact it looks like we don’t even have our next premiership key forward on the list yet, with exception to Fawcett as we haven’t seen anything. Wouldn’t be surprised if Gibcus is trialled fwd or if Balta makes a permanent move if Blight can keep developing but we obviously lack that natural goal kicking key forward that we have had for 25 odd years with Richo and Jack
