Ben Miller re-signs until 2027 [update]

Sorry crawski but I love the guy. Still learning when to mark vs spoil but he is still very raw in football experience and a relative babe as a key back.
He is the perfect key back for us. Huge bonus to help us build out the team from the back 6.

Some of us backed him in at draft day but had the guts to say he was not travelling too well.
It was his first half of 2023 that saved his arse. What was disappointing was the way he finished that year back to the bad old days.

He was lucky to be retained on the list and was rookied at one stage thats how well he was travelling and thru that some of us held faith, but fmd at age 26 and in his seventh season and he falls off another form cliff i think people were entitled to start questioning him.

Thankfully this year he finally stayed consistent and actually showed his first half of last year was the new norm. Or is it?

I have often likened his career to Liam Jones and hope that he now can stay consistent.

He’s played 69 games of senior AFL football so yeah, that’s raw in terms of games played. In addition, less than half of those games have been as a key back so yeah, that’s raw in terms of afl experience.

I know that perhaps you expect every player to float down and have impact from day 1 but that is not going to be B Miller.
His 2025 was significantly better than 24 and that WAS better than his 23 year.
All parts of his game are improving and providing the curve continues to track up  - particularly spoils and intercept possessions which are tracking up nicely.
He kept a number of key forwards from scoring heavily - a huge result considering the lack of pressure on the opposition midfielders this year.

He’s travelling beautifully for a raw, developing key back.

He was drafted in 2017 struggled for his first three years and could not crack a senior game at the end of those three years he hung on by the skin of his teeth being demoted to the rookie list. He would play one game the following year and would not be promoted to the senior list until 2023 yet some of us continued to back him in. Did you?.

He turns 27 next year he has been in our system for what will be 9 seasons. Yet your telling us all he is raw lol. Based on he has only managed 70 games in that time really thats great spin.
juniors 18 - 21 are raw and when they have 70 odd games they are no longer raw.  Its  freakin hilarious Ben Miller is raw at age 27 and after 9 seasons. a  physically mature 9th  year afl player turning 27 and hes freakin raw hhhhaaaaarrrrggggghhhh. Cut it out my sides are hurting.

None of what you have posted is relevant to what I have posted.
Who cares who backed him in 3 years ago? Why is that relevant?
You have a different criteria to me.
I am and have always said he is raw as a player in a key back position at AFL level on the basis of both games played and the games played as a key back.

If they are on a list, they are there to make it work until they are delisted which he is now doing which is sensational - particularly given we need a key back gorilla which he has the physical attributes

I know Damo but he is actually a really good news story.
Was never getting a game while were winning premierships, they then couldn’t figure out where to play him and now he is really starting to shine as a key back.
Consecutive top 10 finishes in the B&F with a top 4 finish in 2025.
People forget Max Gawn barely played seniors at the Dees for 6 years before establishing himself.
He did have injuries as well but also played probably 50 odd games for the 2’s.

Ben Miller has extended his contract for an additional season.

Important Richmond defender Ben Miller has committed further to the Club, putting pen to paper on a one-year contract extension through to the end of 2027.

The fresh deal will take the 195cm key defender to a decade at the Club, having been recruited with pick No. 63 overall at the 2017 AFL National Draft.

Miller had to wait until the final round of his fourth season to make his AFL debut, but has since developed into a staple of Adem Yze’s first-choice defence.

The 26-year-old played every game in 2025, often shutting down the opposition's best tall forward in a campaign that saw him finish a career-high fourth in the Jack Dyer Medal.

Miller also played 21 of the 23 games, taking his career tally to 69 matches.

His breakout year saw him rank #1 at Richmond for marks, one percenters, and disposal efficiency, as well as #3 for intercepts and contested marks.

The calming presence in defence has also shown throughout his career that he can play up forward or in the ruck if required.

Richmond Executive General Manager, Football Talent, Blair Hartley, said Miller had thoroughly deserved the contract extension.

“Ben had an outstanding season in 2025 and has taken his game to a new level,” he said.

“He is a leader of our group and is still improving his game, which is really exciting for us.

“We are looking forward to seeing what Ben can continue to produce across the next two seasons and beyond, and how it will help us as a team.”
