A couple of real average efforts last night defensively but Houli going back a couple of years ago was as bad.
To Houli’s credit he has improved in that area imo. - still far from being any good at it, but better.

So I think if Houli can improve, so can the Eggman.

What he does with the footy gets him some time to work on it imo.

I know Dimma will think differently but I think we are going backwards if we go back to playing Houli defensively.

I like Egg , but even Houli was never that soft and Dio's whipping boy definitely isn't.

Egg will need to improve significantly in this area if he wants to be a long-term player IMO.

Instructing him on making contact would be the first step I would think

Bump. Welcome back DES.

--------------------------------------------------

Skillful defender Derek Eggmolesse-Smith will return to Richmond’s list for the 2021 season, with the Club lodging paperwork to sign the 22-year-old today.

After being delisted by the Club in November, Eggmolesse-Smith was invited back in January as a train-on player as part of the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period, which ended today.

Eggmolesse-Smith, who worked with fitness and sprint coaches over the off-season, said that returning to the Club “stronger and fitter” helped his chances of earning a fresh contract.

“My main focus has been endurance; all the coaches know I have got my speed and pace, but just building that fitness base and getting stronger in the gym has helped me heaps,” he said.

“Having a spot on the list for 2021 is very special, especially (after) last year and going through a lot with the hub and Covid and knowing that I was out of contract.

“Richmond gave me a chance to work hard and get another contract, and I am hoping that this year will be better than the one before."

Eggmolesse-Smith played a part in last Friday night’s AAMI Community Series win over Collingwood, gathering eight disposals from 31 percent game time.

"It was a waiting game for me, but I was excited to get the call-up, and I had a lot of fun. I can't wait for many more games in 2021,” he said.

Wouldn’t be Easter without the Egg 🐣

The Tigers have selected running defender Derek Eggmolesse-Smith for his first game at senior level since Round 8 last year.

It is a feel-good story for the former Next Generation Academy product who played six AFL games in 2020 before being delisted by the Club in November.

Eggmolesse-Smith, who was then re-signed by Richmond last month, admitted he needed to return “stronger and fitter” to win back his spot in the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period.

The 22-year-old has impressed in recent VFL practice matches, including a 19 disposal, four rebound 50s, and four tackle performance against Box Hill last week.

Not a defender and not an attacking accumulator. I don’t get the selection at all.
