I reckon we won’t see Prestia for 3 weeks. Maybe Essendrug game at the earliest.
The club that keeps giving.

Yellow and back: Tigers ready to load up

IT'S BLUE skies over Richmond, with the reigning premiers a game clear on top of the ladder and poised to regain a host of senior players over the next few weeks.

Dion Prestia will miss Friday night's game against Geelong with a fractured rib, but at this stage looks to be right to play Gold Coast the following week.

"He was close. Dion was obviously angling to play this week, but we just thought with the injury, there is a small chance it could progress further," coach Damien Hardwick said on Thursday.

"We'll take a conservative route with Dion and have him available next week versus Gold Coast. It was a great effort to play [out the match against Collingwood], I think he got that knock early in the second quarter, so for his courage to come through and help us win the game was really important."

Running defender Bachar Houli has played just 10 games this year, battling a groin complaint. He did not play at any level last weekend but will play a half of VFL footy on Saturday (also against Geelong).

"We're hoping to have [Houli] available for the Gold Coast game as well," Hardwick said.

"He's been training the last week and a half, so he's really turned the corner, so it's just getting some game time into his legs.

"I think he's missed eight of the last nine games, he's so important to the way we want to play, we'll hopefully get some game time into him this week and he'll put his hands up to play against Gold Coast."

Premiership hero Jack Graham is also a chance to return against the Suns, having not played since round 16 with a dislocated left shoulder.

Classy small forward Dan Butler, who also injured his left ankle in the round 16 win over Adelaide, is another week away.

"They're both progressing pretty well. Jack Graham once again trained this week, so he'll have another week training next week and hopefully be able to play.

"Dan Butler's maybe a fortnight away. He's probably been a little bit of a holding pattern at the moment, but he's starting to run around, so that's a really positive sign for us.

"We're really looking forward to welcoming him back, his speed in the forward half of the ground is so important to the way we play."

Oleg has had a shocking run with injuries this year. Was hoping he would get more games this year but injuries have put an end to that.

Richmond's Physical Performance Manager, Peter Burge provides an injury update:

VIDEO: http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2018-08-13/injury-update-lambert-conca-nankervis

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Here is Burge’s update on the injury condition of several other members of Richmond’s playing list . . .

Reece Conca, rolled ankle

“Reece was down to play 70 minutes of the (VFL) game, and with four of those minutes to go, he sprained his ankle quite badly. He walked in yesterday feeling not too bad and today he’s even better. So, right now, he’s some chance of being available to play this week, but more than likely will miss just one game . . .”

Toby Nankervis, corked quad

“Toby had a quad cork from the game the week before (v Geelong). He was a little bit sore during the week and we just took the opportunity (to rest him), but he’ll be good to go this week.”

Dan Butler, ankle

“’Buts’ had an ankle syndesmosis sprain, much the same as Kane Lambert. He’d been progressing and building his speed and running about 95 percent, but still with a bit of a limp and still not full power. So last Friday he went in and had the same minor procedure that Kane had this morning, which means he’s going to miss probably the next two games. We’re preparing him for the first final at this stage . . . We’ll get a much better result with this minor surgery. We’ll start him running later this week and build his speed . . .”

Oleg Markov, knee

“Oleg has started running and is looking much better. He just need to build his conditioning base before he returns to play. Probably, best case (for his return), first week of the VFL finals, but more than likely the second week.”

Nathan Drummond, hamstring

“’Drummo’ started jogging today. We’ll progress his conditioning over the next couple of weeks and  just see where we end up with that.”

Shai Bolton, knee

“Shai had some knee soreness two weeks ago . . . We gave him some time off and then tried to build him back up again with some running. He was still sore, so he went in last Tuesday for an arthroscope, and had a minor clean-up of his meniscus. He’s back now doing some strength work and will start running, potentially at the end of this week, certainly early next week at the latest. We’re hopeful Shai will be back playing somewhere during the VFL finals . . . on the earlier end of those finals we’re thinking at this stage.”

Noah Balta, corked hamstring

“Different injury, a hamstring cork, but we do see them a lot these days. He was able to get running early last week, but just couldn’t progress to full speed later in the week. So we gave him the week off. He’ll fully train this week. Obviously there’s no VFL game this week, so he probably ends up with another week off. But he’ll fully train with the group . . .”

Mabior Chol, broken foot

“’Marbs’ is conditioning still. We’re building his base and we’re looking to bring him back during the VFL finals.”

Wonder why they didn't do the surgery on Butler early. Not ideal Lambert and Butler coming into final not match fit.If Butler doesn't play a half in vfl very hard.

Sometimes you need to let injuries sit for a while before you make a decision. If Butler is getting surgery, it’ll likely be a small pin being inserted to help structure the injury etc.

Townsend out for the finals with a fractured ankle. :-[

The rest are progressing well, with Lambert a near certainty to play against Hawthorn, Butler to play "some minutes" in the VFL on Saturday.

Disappointing about Townsend; I still believe he could have been a dangerous inclusion commeth the moment.

Butler certainly won’t play v Hawthorn if he plays VFL; 5 day break.

Just couldnt have seen Dimma bringing in Townsend anyway, with Graham tried up forward i think he fills a part role of having some stronger bodies inside 50.

Broken leg rules premiership Tiger out of finals

Jennifer Phelan

RICHMOND flag hero Jacob Townsend won't be part of the Tigers' premiership defence after he undergoes surgery on a fractured fibula on Monday.

The 25-year-old injured his left ankle in a tackle during the first quarter of the Tigers' VFL win over Frankston on Saturday and failed to the return to the field.

It's since been determined an operation and recovery period of at least two months is required.

"He suffered a fractured fibula from the game, which means he needs surgery … that's his season over, unfortunately," Richmond's physical performance manager Peter Burge told the club's website.

"It's really disappointing, it's probably an eight-to-10-week situation from the surgery, so really now it's just about getting himself right for pre-season."

The Tigers were long odds to become the first side ever to reform their winning 2017 premiership team this season, given the emergence of defender Jayden Short, the promise of youngster Jack Higgins and the return of Reece Conca.

But with Townsend now ruled out, they have no chance of getting their flag-winning 22 back together before the end of their season.

Townsend has been in and out of the AFL side this season after his fairytale run to last year's finals where he came into the side in round 22 and held his spot to win a premiership medal.

He last played at AFL level in round 20 against Geelong this season.

Meanwhile, Dan Butler will play limited minutes in the Tigers' VFL qualifying final against Williamstown on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old hasn't played since injuring his ankle in round 16 against Adelaide and underwent surgery to strengthen the joint on August 10.

He is expected to train fully with the VFL squad this week while the AFL players have a few days off.

"It won't be a full game, but it's great news. He's moving really well and that minor surgery he had two weeks ago has really helped him progress so we're really pleased," Burge said.

Another premiership player in Kane Lambert is also on the comeback trail from an ankle injury that required the same surgical intervention as Butler's on August 13.

However, given he last played in round 21, it's unlikely he'll play in the VFL this week and will instead be considered to come straight into the Tigers' side to face Hawthorn on September 6.

"He's running really well at the moment, running with good balance, good gait, and he'll resume training on the weekend with the group," he said.

"We think he's a really good chance to play next week [against Hawthorn]."

Oleg Markov is a chance to return from a knee injury in the VFL final this week if he gets through training while Mabior Chol (foot) and Nathan Drummond (hamstring) are looking at a later return in September.

Shai Bolton is in a similar boat, having ramped up his running on the AlterG anti-gravity treadmill after a knee injury.
