DRAFT NEEDS

The Tigers made great use of their first pick last season, landing lively forward Jack Higgins at pick 17. The club have exactly the same selection this time around but they won't use it on a small forward, with a midfielder the more likely target, having used their first selection in four of the past five national drafts to land Higgins, Shai Bolton, Dan Rioli and Ben Lennon.

Hard-at-it midfielder Liam Stocker would be a good selection and become the second consecutive Morrish Medal winner picked by the Tigers at 17 if they went down that track. Stocker would be a safe pick and add depth to the Tigers' inside game where he could learn off some of the best in the business, while Riley Collier-Dawkins would be a good choice if still available. He showed his class with the Oakleigh Chargers in the finals, while Ian Hill would be a speculative selection with the creative, skilful midfielder likely to need some time to flourish.

It's also time for the Tigers to build some depth among the tall defenders with Alex Rance and David Astbury's resilience in recent seasons buying the Tigers some time. Western Australia's Damon Greaves could be tempting at pick 37, although the Tigers might dive in even later to get a back to develop such as Gippsland Power's Kyle Reid or the Eastern Ranges' James Blanck.

Richmond have also committed to picking up premiership forward Jacob Townsend as a rookie after he was delisted last month.

Garthwaite, Balta and Miller in reserve with grimes, broad and to a lesser extent vlastuin all being able to fill a kpd spot.

Would draft inside minds, rucks, outside runners (wings, half back flankers) and kpf all before thinking about kpd.

The website AFL Draft Central has done an 'Inside Footy' type draft guide with summaries of about 200 potential draftees.

Wont be getting him then. Clarke thought he had too many deficiencies when I asked specifically about him. Unless I convinced him otherwise..... :shh

The Herald-Sun's phantom draft has us taking Stocker.

But then they also say:

Hawthorn is circling Liam Stocker and Jack Gunston-clone Noah Gown late in the draft order.

The Hawks are slated to enter the draft at No.53 and would have to trade their way up the order to land Stocker, who is tipped to go in the top 25.
