2018 Trade/Free agency rumours, scuttlebutt & innuendo
« on: May 23, 2018, 03:21:38 AM »
SCOTT LYCETT (West Coast) - Restricted free agent:

Roaring up the charts as an elite ruckman given he and Nic Naitanui are forming a strong combination that hands them both solid game time.

The question is whether he wants to be a first-choice ruckman and whether the Eagles have the cash to withstand bumper offers elsewhere given commitments to Elliott Yeo, Jeremy McGovern and Gaff.

Clubs don’t want to recruit ruckmen any more, they want to poach them, and Lycett is doing everything possible to maximise his options after an injury-ravaged 2017.

No one would forgive him if he jumped ship to a club which can give him big money and the lead role, but right now with West Coast’s form, why would you want to leave?

If he did want to leave, you would think all of Richmond, Carlton and Essendon would be considering their succession plan for ruckmen.

So a "succession plan" for 23 year-old Nankervis would involve bringing in 25 year-old Lycett?

This might be a contingency if we don't end up with Lynch
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Yes but it's hardly a "succession plan" as the "journalist" is speculating..... also not sure he offers that much up forward....

Agreed, I was thinking moreso he'd be the number 1 Ruck with Nank up forward and relieving in the Ruck....
But, not altogether ground breaking

Don’t think nanks a good enough forward to be spending anymore than resting time there. He’s great around the ball and that’s where he should stay. Another key fwd who can give short stints in the ruck is what we need imo. Anyone available.......?

Tom McDonald

Estimated value: $700,000

Linked clubs: Richmond, Collingwood, Fremantle

What’s going on: McDonald is in talks with the Demons and says he’s keen to stay – and he is – but salary cap pressure is starting to squeeze at Melbourne and the 25-year-old could definitely earn more elsewhere with some big players considering him if bids for Gold Coast’s Tom Lynch fall through.

Will he go: The Demons will need to find ways to get the money, but if they can match other offers then McDonald will be in the red and blue for a few years yet.

Go-Stay? 20-80

Agree with this. Nanks actually a very good no. 1 ruck and will continue to improve to become one of the comps better rucks imo, already id have him in the top half a dozen 'around the ground rucks'. Hitouts are overated

The journalist is thinking back to the sort of succession planning we did in the late 80's and early 90's.

Two rumours :

Sam Mitchell will definitely not be at WCE next year as assistant coach.

Clarkson will leave the Hawks to coach Carlton.

The former rumou is as certain as I can be. The latter is just hearsay and not as strong.

Didn't they just re-sign Bolton?

Would be a very ‘Carlton’ move if they brought Clarkson across. They never develop any of their own talent, just try and poach others.

Don’t see it happening at all, btw.

I wonder if Mitchell is leaving for greener pastures or if WC have just had their fill of the Afls biggest wanker.
