Richmond is adamant that assistant Adam Kingsley will remain at the club until its 2021 campaign is finished, with coach Damien Hardwick challenging his players to ensure that won't happen before September.

As reported on AFL.com.au earlier last week, Kingsley has established himself as one of the frontrunners for the vacant Collingwood coaching job having helped the club to successive premierships in his first two seasons at Punt Road.

However, Hardwick insisted Kingsley will remain with the Tigers until season's end regardless of whether he wins the Pies coaching gig beforehand, with the club still holding out hope that its season will be extended into finals.

Richmond's dismal run of form had earlier continued against Geelong, with a disappointing 38-point defeat leaving the Tigers on the cusp of finishing the weekend four points and a significant percentage gap from eighth spot.

"Absolutely (he'll stay)," Hardwick said of Kingsley afterwards.

"He's a contracted coach for us and that's the way it operates from our point of view. He'll stay with us until we're finished."

Honestly all for understanding the idea of wanting a senior coach gig but shopping yourself around to anything and everything. Time to move Adam on I think. Would prefer assistants who want to be there. And not ones that keep failing to get a job.

I don’t know just how good Kingsley is but I’d be worried if we lose him that we don’t replace him or replace him with someone from the vfl program like we have been doing recently (other than teague)

THE RICHMOND ASSISTANT WHO IS “HAPPY TO COACH ANYONE” NEXT SEASON

By Ethan Clark
SEN
23 July 2022

Richmond assistant coach Adam Kingsley has made his coaching intentions clear as a busy off-season approaches.

When asked on AFL Nation about his availability for the current vacancies in the coaching ranks, Kinglsey openly expressed his interest.

“That’s the ambition, to be a senior coach, so that’s where I’d like to be,” he said.

“The processes are, I’d presume, heating up and I’d certainly like to be a part of that.

“Obviously the last couple I’ve missed out on, and I got some feedback on those which is always valuable, and I’ve used the last 12 months to get to work and try to improve.”

The 170-game premiership player with Port Adelaide believes beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to his preferred destination.

“I’m certainly happy to coach anyone. North Melbourne, as we saw last week, has plenty of potential. They’re really difficult to get, these senior jobs, for any assistant and there's plenty of us out there who have ambitions to become senior coaches,” Kingsley said.

“Whilst you’ve got to be careful around what you do, you can sometimes be a little bit too picky. So, I think both jobs available at the moment (GWS and North Melbourne) are quite attractive.”

AFL Nation’s Kane Cornes questioned how Kingsley has managed to juggle his workload at Richmond, with preparing for and presenting at other clubs.

“It's really difficult, you’ve got to do your job first and foremost and that’s what I’ve been focusing on predominantly, but, at the right time, you try to find little gaps in your schedule and try to devote a little bit of work to either improving yourself as a coach or preparing for an opportunity to present something,” he explained.

“I’ve been in the game long enough to have a really clear understanding around what we think the game should look like, how we coach it and how we teach it.”

Kingsley has previously been an assistant coach at Port Adelaide from 2007-2010 before moving to St Kilda in 2010 and Richmond in 2019.

Honestly id sack Kingsley. I find this sort of stuff enormously unprofessional. You can be ambitious but this needs to be balanced with commitment to what you are currently doing. He never speaks of his love or desire to win anything at Richmond. Everything is self focussed on being a senior coach  Never have I considered Kingsley committed to Richmond, we are simply a vessel to help him get a senior gig. Never have I thought him to be a Richmond person and invested in the club. Get rid of him.

It would be funny if his ambition to become a senior coach resulted in him losing his job as an assistant coach.

Icarus and all that. :P

If this was a player you'd drop him to the 2s and look for a way to get him out of your club.

Can't tell me the players respect this, connect with this type as much as a long term assistant who is invested in the players more then their own personal advancement.

I'm blown away we let this happen publically. Sure it will always happen naturally but I think it is a disgrace.

He’s also doing terrible at his current job because we get completely dominated in the stoppages and clearances. Eff him off at year’s end.

In our premiership years we were ranked 13th (2017), 18th (2019) and 17th (2020) for clearances. It's not our game plan to dominate clearance.

It hasn’t been I agree, but the 6,6,6 rule in play the last couple of seasons it’s definitely had an impact on us.

We need to improve in this area

Totally agree on centre bounce clearance. No Dusty hasn't helped this year.

Clearances have never been our strong suit but where we used to lose clearances and intercept the ball we are now conceding goals from stoppages at an alarming rate.
